Job Title: Transaction Monitoring Analyst (Corporate Banking)

Location: Chennai, India

Experience Required: 8-10 Yrs

Role Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Transaction Monitoring Analyst specialized in Corporate Banking to join our Financial Crime Compliance team in Chennai. The role is responsible for reviewing and assessing transaction monitoring (TM) alerts generated through the bank’s monitoring systems, identifying unusual or potentially suspicious activity, and escalating alerts to Country Compliance where there are indicia of suspicion in line with a pre-determined framework.

The ideal candidate will have 10 +years of relevant experience in transaction monitoring, AML investigations, alert review, or financial crime operations within a bank, financial institution, or shared service environment. Strong judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to document clear and concise rationales are critical for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and assess transaction monitoring alerts generated by the bank’s AML / surveillance systems in accordance with internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct alert investigations by analyzing customer activity, transaction patterns, customer profiles, account behavior, and available internal and external information.
  • Identify unusual activity and determine whether alerts present indicia of suspicion based on the established escalation framework.
  • Escalate cases with potential suspicious indicators to Country Compliance in a timely, accurate, and well-documented manner.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and complete case narratives, including the rationale for closing alerts or escalating them for further review.
  • Ensure all alert reviews are completed within agreed turnaround times and service level expectations.
  • Maintain high-quality standards in alert dispositioning and documentation to support auditability and regulatory review.
  • Apply a risk-based approach when assessing alerts, taking into consideration customer risk, geography, product usage, transactional behavior, and known typologies.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders, including Compliance, AML Investigations, KYC/CDD teams, Operations, and business teams, where required to obtain relevant information.
  • Support periodic quality reviews, assurance checks, and remediation activities as needed.
  • Keep up to date with evolving AML / CFT regulations, internal policies, red flags, and financial crime typologies.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the transaction monitoring process.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Commerce, Business, Economics, Law, or a related discipline.
  • 8-10 Yrs years of dedicated experience in transaction monitoring, AML operations, financial crime compliance, sanctions screening, or investigative review within a bank or financial institution, with at least 3 years focused strictly on Corporate Banking.
  • Hands-on experience reviewing transaction monitoring alerts and documenting alert outcomes.
  • Good understanding of AML / CFT principles, suspicious activity indicators, and financial crime risks.
  • Experience working with defined investigation or escalation frameworks.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English .
  • Ability to make sound decisions based on facts, patterns, and risk indicators.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage volumes, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5-6 years of dedicated experience AML transaction monitoring, with at least 3 years focused on Corporate Banking in an international bank, global capability center, or shared services environment.
  • Familiarity with common transaction monitoring systems and case management tools.
  • Exposure to retail, corporate, correspondent banking, or trade-related transaction monitoring.
  • Understanding of regulatory expectations relating to suspicious transaction reporting and escalation.
  • Relevant certifications such as ACAMS , ICA, or equivalent will be an advantage.
