Job Overview:

We are looking for a Senior Engineer with ~5 years of experience (3+ years of production-level experience building agents and backend systems) to join our founding engineering team as a technical lead. This is a high-ownership, high-agency role for someone who wants to build core product infrastructure from the ground up, with deep involvement in both backend engineering and the agentic layer — orchestration, guardrailing, and harness design for multi-agent systems. The role occasionally extends into our own custom intelligence layer, fine-tuning small independent models and exposing them as MCP tools for agent-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead backend engineering for core product systems, with a strong emphasis on scalability and reliability in a fast-paced startup environment.

• Design and build the agentic/orchestration layer — multi-agent coordination, guardrails, harnesses, and failure recovery.

• Architect systems that expose custom-built or fine-tuned models (vision, language, or otherwise) as tools agents can call, reason over, and act on.

• Own system design end-to-end, from backend service architecture to how agents are orchestrated, sandboxed, and monitored in production.

• Work across our Postgres and Postgres-variant database backends, with an eye toward distributed-systems optimizations as the product scales.

• Deploy and manage cloud infrastructure using AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Work as a founding member of the engineering team — setting technical standards, making build-vs-buy calls, and mentoring as the team scales.

• Collaborate closely with product and founding team members, moving fast and taking direct ownership of product direction.

Key Requirements:

• ~5 years of overall experience, with 3+ years of hands-on, production-level experience building agents and/or backend systems.

• Proven experience working in lean teams within fast-paced startup environments.

• High agency and high ownership — a self-directed operator comfortable leading as part of a founding engineering team.

• Strong backend engineering fundamentals with genuine system design fluency.

• Equal fluency in agentic system design — understanding of orchestration patterns, guardrailing, and the failure modes of multi-agent systems.

• Working knowledge of Postgres or Postgres-variant/Postgres-like database backends.

• Comfortable working from our office full-time (no remote or hybrid).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Hands-on MLOps or applied AI/ML/DL experience (e.g., model serving, fine-tuning, inference optimization) — valuable, but secondary to orchestration and agentic systems expertise.

• Experience with agent orchestration frameworks (e.g., LangGraph, Google ADK, or similar) and agent-to-agent (A2A) communication patterns.

• Experience exposing models or services as callable tools via protocols like MCP.

• Working knowledge of distributed systems, useful for optimizing the database layer as the product scales.

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and CI/CD, Docker, and DevOps practices.

• Production-Level Experience (Agents & Backend Systems): 3 years (Required)

• Backend Development: 5 years (Preferred)

• Agentic Systems / Multi-Agent Orchestration: 1–2 years (Preferred)

• Cloud Platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure): 2 years (Preferred)

• MLOps / AI / ML / DL: Hands-on experience (Preferred, not required)
