The Role
The Humane Society of Charlotte (HSC) is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Relief HQHV Spay/Neuter Veterinarian to support our growing clinic team on Wednesdays or on an as-needed basis . This role is ideal for a veterinarian who has experience in high-quality high-volume spay/neuter settings. We are ideally looking for a veterinarian who can perform a minimum of 25 spay/neuter surgeries in a 5-hour window with a HQHV SN surgical technique.
The Relief Veterinarian will perform spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats only and will be working with publicly owned pets, community cats, shelter animals, and animals from partner rescue organizations while ensuring exceptional patient care from intake through recovery.

In 2025 our DVM’s performed over 8,000 spay/neuter surgeries and saw over 7,000 pets in our Essential Care Clinic. Our state-of-the-art facility includes an adoption center, spay/neuter and wellness clinic, pet help center, and education center.
Required Qualifications
- Required: Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine; DVM or VMD
- Required: Current North Carolina veterinary license
- Required: Comfortable with pediatric surgeries, cryptorchid surgeries (abdominal and inguinal), pregnant, in-heat and pyometra spays
- Preferred: Three to five years of experience and/or training in high volume spay/neuter and trained in HQHV spay/neuter technique
Schedule
Coverage: Wednesdays or on an as-needed basis for vacations, leave coverage, increased surgical volume, and special projects
Clinic hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Compensation
Competitive relief compensation based on experience, surgical proficiency, and availability. Compensation will be provided at an hourly rate.
