We are partnered with an established CPA firm looking to add an Audit Manager to its Not-for-Profit practice.
The firm offers a flexible hybrid setup, with employees expected to be in the office 2 days per week.
This position is suited to someone who has built genuine expertise auditing 501(c)(3) public charities and has worked with a broad range of nonprofit organizations.A key requirement is experience beyond organizations that are predominantly government or grant funded. The team is particularly interested in someone who understands the more complex areas of nonprofit financial reporting, including investment portfolios and endowment funds.
The RoleAs an Audit Manager, you'll take ownership of nonprofit audit engagements from planning through completion, working directly with clients while overseeing and developing members of the audit team.You'll be responsible for:Managing audit engagements for 501(c)(3) public charities and other nonprofit organizationsLeading engagements from planning and risk assessment through fieldwork and completionAuditing investment portfolios, investment income and related financial statement activityWorking with organizations that maintain endowment fundsReviewing the accounting and presentation of donor-restricted and board-designated fundsReviewing financial statements and related disclosuresAssessing internal controls and identifying areas of audit riskDeveloping and reviewing audit procedures based on the organization's risk profileReviewing work prepared by Seniors and StaffManaging engagement timelines, budgets and deliverablesActing as a key point of contact for clientsWorking closely with Partners on technical matters and complex engagementsCoaching and developing junior members of the audit team
What We're Looking ForIdeally, you'll have:5+ years of public accounting audit experienceStrong experience auditing 501(c)(3) public charitiesExperience auditing organizations with investments and endowment fundsA solid understanding of audit risk assessmentsStrong knowledge of nonprofit financial statements and financial statement preparationExperience planning and managing audit engagementsStrong understanding of GAAP and relevant nonprofit accounting requirementsExperience reviewing the work of junior team membersConfidence communicating directly with clients and senior stakeholdersCPA or progress toward CPA qualification preferred
The Experience That Will Stand OutWe're particularly interested in candidates who have worked with nonprofit organizations with more complex balance sheets and funding structures.This could include experience across:Endowment Funds | Investment Portfolios | Donor-Restricted Assets | Contributions & Gifts | Multiple Revenue Streams | Complex Financial Statement Disclosures
Candidates whose nonprofit experience has been focused predominantly on government-funded organizations may not have had sufficient exposure to investments and endowments, so direct experience in these areas will be particularly important.
