Senior US Tax Manager (US Business & Individual Tax)
Taxagon · India
Job Description
About Taxagon
Taxagon.co handles US tax for American small businesses and individuals. Our clients are S-corps, partnerships, single-member LLCs, freelancers and families who want a firm that actually picks up the phone. We are building the Hyderabad delivery team that serves them directly — not as a back office for someone else's firm, but as the people the client speaks to, trusts and stays with.
The role
You will be the senior tax authority on the floor. You will review returns before they go out, sign off on positions, take client calls yourself, and own the relationship from first conversation through to an accepted e-file. If you have spent years preparing returns that someone else reviewed and someone else explained to the client, this is the step up.
What you will own
Preparation and review
• Prepare and review US business returns: Forms 1065, 1120 and 1120-S, including K-1s, basis and shareholder/partner allocations
• Prepare and review US individual returns: Form 1040 with Schedules A, B, C, D and E; multi-state returns; Form 1040-NR where applicable
• Review work prepared by junior associates, give written review notes, and hold the quality standard for the team
• Handle book-to-tax adjustments, depreciation schedules, estimated payments, extensions and amended returns
• Keep positions defensible: documentation, workpapers and a clear trail for anything aggressive
Client-facing
• Run discovery and consultation calls with prospective US clients, scope the engagement and convert them
• Be the person clients call during season — answer queries on notices, balances due, deductions and filing positions in plain English
• Manage a book of client relationships through the year, not just at filing deadlines
• Flag planning opportunities (entity election, salary vs distribution, retirement contributions, quarterly estimates) and raise them with the client
Filing and operations
• Own the e-filing process end to end: transmission, acknowledgements, rejects and resubmissions, federal and state
• Track deadlines across the calendar — March 15, April 15, extended deadlines, and state variations
• Respond to IRS and state notices, and draft responses on the client's behalf
• Work with the team on process, checklists and turnaround time as we scale
What we are looking for
• 5–10 years of hands-on US taxation experience, with at least 2 years in a review capacity
• Genuine depth across both business and individual returns — not one or the other
• Demonstrated e-filing experience, including handling rejections and amendments
• Confident spoken English and real comfort on client calls with US clients
• Working knowledge of US tax software (Drake, Lacerte, ProConnect, UltraTax, CCH Axcess or similar) and QuickBooks or Xero
• Willingness to work the night shift on-site in Hyderabad, aligned to US hours
Nice to have
• Enrolled Agent (EA) credential, or US CPA. If you hold an EA, we will support your CE. If you do not, the experience above is what counts — but we will expect it to be deep.
• Experience with 1040-NR, FBAR/FinCEN 114, Forms 5471 or 5472
• Sales or consultative experience — you have converted a prospect, not just serviced one
• Experience mentoring or building out a tax team
What you get
• Competitive compensation, benchmarked to the best in the industry for this profile
• Direct ownership of US client relationships — your name on the work, your voice on the call
• A senior seat in a growing firm, with room to build and lead the team under you
• Night-shift allowance and transport, and a real off-season
