This is a senior, hands-on supervisory role. You will own the production workflow, supervise tax preparers, review work, personally handle complex matters, coordinate with clients, and ensure every engagement progresses from information gathering through successful filing and delivery.
You will also oversee the tax readiness of business-client bookkeeping and proactively identify tax-planning opportunities. Routine bookkeeping will be performed by designated bookkeeping staff. Excellent written and spoken English for professional US client communication, strong organizational skills, and reliability during peak filing periods are essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Production and Portfolio Ownership
· Own the end-to-end tax production workflow for more than 200 individual clients and approximately 40 business entities.
· Plan and manage production capacity, assign work to tax preparers, monitor progress, and escalate risks before deadlines are affected.
· Supervise the preparation of US federal, state, and applicable local tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065, and related schedules and filings.
· Personally prepare or review complex returns and resolve technical tax issues.
· Manage client organizers, source-document collection, missing-information requests, and follow-up through completion.
· Maintain complete, organized workpapers and documentation consistent with firm standards.
· Review tax returns for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and compliance with applicable filing requirements.
· Manage extension calculations and filings, including estimated tax payments and client communications.
· Coordinate the resolution of review comments and ensure all open items are cleared.
· Manage client approvals and electronic filing authorizations, including Forms 8879 and related state authorizations.
· Monitor e-file acknowledgments, resolve rejected filings, and confirm successful federal and state acceptance.
· Coordinate final return delivery, payment instructions, estimated-tax vouchers, and post-filing communications.
· Assist with amended returns, tax notices, and other post-filing matters arising from assigned engagements.
· Maintain accurate status information in the firm’s workflow system throughout the production cycle.
Tax Planning and Advisory
· Identify relevant deductions, credits, elections, entity-structure considerations, estimated-tax requirements, and other planning opportunities.
· Develop clear, practical recommendations for clients and firm leadership.
· Explain tax results and planning opportunities to clients in plain, professional language.
· Flag complex, unusual, or high-risk issues for partner review when appropriate.
· Support year-round tax projections and planning for assigned clients.
Team Supervision
· Assign and supervise work performed by tax preparers supporting the portfolio.
· Provide clear instructions, technical guidance, and timely feedback.
· Review preparer workpapers and returns and ensure review comments are resolved appropriately.
· Help develop consistent preparation standards, checklists, and quality-control procedures.
· Support and coach team members during peak production periods.
Bookkeeping Oversight and Tax Readiness
Routine monthly bookkeeping will be performed by designated bookkeeping personnel. The Senior Tax Manager will oversee the connection between the books, tax returns, and planning recommendations.
Responsibilities include:
· Review year-end and interim financial statements, general ledgers, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for tax readiness.
· Identify necessary tax adjustments and coordinate their preparation and posting with the bookkeeping team.
· Review fixed assets, depreciation, loans, payroll, owner compensation, distributions, equity, retained earnings, and partner or shareholder basis where applicable.
· Resolve complex or escalated accounting questions affecting tax treatment.
· Ensure business books agree with the related tax returns and supporting workpapers.
· Communicate bookkeeping deficiencies, required corrections, and planning considerations to clients and internal staff.
· Coordinate with bookkeeping personnel on source documents, bank-feed issues, reconciliations, and year-end close requirements.
This position is not expected to perform routine transaction coding, monthly reconciliations, accounts payable, or accounts receivable work except when needed to resolve an escalated issue.
Client Communication and Coordination
· Serve as a primary tax contact for assigned clients.
· Communicate professionally and naturally with US individuals and small-business owners.
· Provide timely status updates, request information clearly, and set appropriate expectations.
· Conduct video calls during Eastern Time business hours when required.
· Build trusted client relationships while maintaining professional boundaries and responsiveness.
Systems and Process
· Work primarily in CCH, preferably CCH Axcess, and Tax Dome.
· Follow firm workflows, checklists, documentation requirements, and review procedures.
· Maintain accurate client statuses, notes, tasks, and deadlines in TaxDome.
· Contribute to process improvements that increase production efficiency, consistency, and client experience.
Peak-Season Availability
· Work a flexible schedule during non-peak periods.
· Be available for extended hours, including evenings and weekends when necessary, during peak tax season, primarily February through April.
· Maintain dependable availability during critical filing and extension deadlines.
· Participate in video calls during Eastern Time hours as needed.
5. Qualification & Experience:

· Strong knowledge of Forms 1040, 1120, 1120-S, and 1065 and related federal and state filings.
· Experience with extensions, estimated taxes, amended returns, e-file resolution, tax notices, and post-filing support.
· Direct experience communicating with American clients.
· Strong natural written and spoken English suitable for professional US communication.
· Demonstrated ability to identify tax-planning opportunities and communicate practical recommendations.
· Experience reviewing business books and determining whether they are complete and tax-ready.
· Proficiency or strong familiarity with CCH and Tax Dome preferred.
· Strong supervisory, organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to operate independently while coordinating effectively with firm leadership and supporting staff.
· Reliable internet access, a professional home-office environment, and the ability to work US-aligned hours when required.
6. Benefits:
· Fully remote from India.
· Full-time position with seasonal workload intensity.
· Flexible daily schedule outside peak periods.
· Additional evening and weekend availability required during heavy production periods and major US tax deadlines.
7. What Success Looks Like:
You maintain control of a large, active tax portfolio and ensure that every engagement moves efficiently from intake through filing and delivery. You provide effective direction to preparers, perform reliable technical reviews, keep clients informed, identify valuable tax-planning opportunities, and ensure business books are ready for tax preparation.
