About Us The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work This position is located at Craven Correctional Institution in Vanceboro, NC, Craven County. The prison is a Medium Custody Adult Male Felon Diagnostic Processing Center which houses 850 offenders. Employees in this class provide support in the Medical Records Office and to the medical supervisors. Key Duties Include:- Typing miscellaneous forms, preparing statistical reports on patients treated, data entry, filing, and entering clinical schedules.
- Submits and tracks the release of information requests; reviews medical records for completeness, collaborates with physicians, nurses and other health professionals on medical records.
- Backlog and scheduling lab, MD sick call and physical exam clinics, lab and X-Ray requisitions, filing and assisting all medical, mental health and dental staff locating medical charts as needed.
- Documented knowledge of clerical/secretarial skills
- Documented knowledge in the use of office machines
- Documented knowledge in computer skills using MS Word
- Demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills and abilities gained through at least one year of medical records assistant experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience in Medical Records, Medical Terminology, Medical Filing Systems, Typing, Data Entry and Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT Codes
