You will be joining a growing and established Facilities Management provider that delivers hard FM, building maintenance and specialist services to approximately 30 clients. The portfolio is primarily made up of commercial office environments, alongside some retail-related contracts.
The business combines an in-house engineering service with specialist subcontractor support and is now strengthening its mobile engineering team by bringing more mechanical knowledge and fault-finding capability in-house.
Your new role
As a Mobile Multi-Skilled Engineer with a Mechanical bias, you will report to the Lead Engineer and work as part of a developing engineering team. You will carry out planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and minor works across a varied portfolio of client properties.
A key focus of the role will be diagnosing and resolving mechanical faults, reducing the reliance on external contractors and helping the business deliver a broader range of services directly to its clients.
Your responsibilities will include:
Carrying out PPM and reactive maintenance in line with SFG20 and manufacturer guidance
Diagnosing mechanical faults and completing repairs, aiming for a first-time fix wherever possible
Working across HVAC, plumbing, pumps, valves, chillers, electrical systems and general building fabric
Undertaking routine electrical testing, emergency-lighting checks and fire-alarm testing within your level of competency
Completing minor installations, component replacements, repairs and improvement works
Supporting with general maintenance, handyperson tasks, painting and fabric-related repairs when required
Recognising when specialist support is required and working effectively with approved subcontractors
Completing and updating jobs accurately through the CAFM/helpdesk system
Working safely in accordance with RAMS, permit-to-work procedures and health and safety requirements
Maintaining accurate logbooks, asset records and compliance documentation
Monitoring plant and equipment condition and reporting recurring faults or lifecycle concerns
Liaising professionally with clients, building occupants and subcontractors
Managing your van stock, tools and spare parts
Taking responsibility for the cleanliness, organisation and routine safety checks of your allocated company vehicle
Participating in an out-of-hours emergency call-out rota as required
Identifying service improvements and opportunities for additional works or account growth
This is a genuinely mobile role. Travel will include client sites across the wider region, with occasional longer-distance travel where operationally required. Overnight accommodation may be provided where travel falls outside reasonable daily limits.
What you'll need to succeed
You will be an Experienced Multi-Skilled Engineer with a strong mechanical bias and a recognised trade qualification, such as City & Guilds, NVQ Level 2/3 or an equivalent apprenticeship.
You will also need:
Strong mechanical training and practical fault-finding ability
Previous experience within hard services FM, technical facilities management or building maintenance
Experience diagnosing and resolving mechanical faults, rather than solely coordinating external contractors
Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, pumps, valves and associated building services
Sufficient electrical and building-fabric knowledge to operate effectively in a multi-skilled role
An understanding of health and safety legislation, safe systems of work and permit-to-work procedures
The ability to work independently, use your initiative and manage a varied mobile workload
Good administrative skills, including the accurate completion of job records and compliance paperwork
A professional and customer-focused approach when working in occupied commercial environments
A willingness to support colleagues and undertake broader maintenance tasks when required
A full UK driving licence
The business is looking for someone who is honest, dependable and keen to contribute to a growing organisation. You should be willing to learn, take ownership of problems and recognise and learn from mistakes.
Qualifications such as 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, F-Gas, IOSH Working Safely or Authorised/Competent Person status would be advantageous but are not essential.
What you'll get in return
You will receive a competitive salary of £50,000-£55,000, alongside a strong benefits package including:
Company van for both business and personal use, which can normally be kept at home
20 days' annual leave
Your birthday off. If your birthday falls at the weekend, you can choose to take either the Friday or Monday off
One additional day's annual leave for each completed year of service, up to a maximum annual entitlement of 26 days
Private medical cover after 12 months' service
Two volunteering days following successful completion of probation
Employer pension contribution through the NEST scheme
A permanent, full-time position within a growing business
Opportunities to broaden your technical knowledge and develop your cross-trade capabilities
The opportunity to play an important part in developing the company's in-house engineering service
