Product Design Engineer
Bullet Microdrama OTT · Bangalore, India
Job Description
Experience: 5–7 Years
Location: Delhi/NCR
Employment Type: Full-time
Environment: High-growth, AI-first startup
We are looking for a Senior Product Design Engineer who sits at the intersection of product design, user experience, frontend engineering, and AI .
This is not a traditional UX/UI role where designs are handed over to engineering.
We are looking for someone who can understand a product problem, design the experience, prototype the solution, build the frontend, and ship it .
You should be equally comfortable opening Figma and React , using AI coding tools to move faster, and working with founders and engineers to take an idea from a rough concept to a working product.
At 5–7 years of experience, we expect you to bring strong product judgment, design maturity, technical depth, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-moving startup.
- Own end-to-end user experience across mobile and web products.
- Convert ambiguous product ideas into clear user journeys, flows, wireframes, prototypes, and working experiences.
- Identify friction across onboarding, discovery, engagement, conversion, retention, and monetization journeys.
- Use user behavior, analytics, research, and experimentation to improve product experiences.
- Understand the difference between a visually attractive interface and a product experience that actually performs.
- Work directly with founders and product teams on zero-to-one product thinking.
- Create high-quality interfaces using Figma .
- Build and maintain scalable design systems, components, tokens, variants, and interaction patterns.
- Design responsive experiences across different screen sizes and devices.
- Create interactive prototypes for rapid product validation.
- Maintain consistency while allowing the product to evolve quickly.
- Have strong judgment around typography, hierarchy, spacing, interaction design, motion, and visual storytelling.
You should be capable of building what you design .
- Develop production-quality interfaces using React.js .
- Experience with Next.js is strongly preferred.
- Build reusable, modular frontend components.
- Work comfortably with HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks.
- Experience with Tailwind CSS or similar systems.
- Integrate frontend experiences with APIs and backend services.
- Understand state management, routing, authentication, responsive behaviour, and application architecture.
- Optimize interfaces for performance, accessibility, scalability, and different device conditions.
- Work effectively with backend and platform engineers when deeper engineering support is required.
We want someone who doesn't simply \"use ChatGPT.\"
You should understand how AI is changing the way products are designed, prototyped and developed .
- Use AI coding environments such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or similar tools to accelerate development.
- Use generative AI tools for rapid prototyping and product exploration.
- Be comfortable with the concept of vibe coding , while still understanding the underlying code being generated.
- Prototype AI-powered product features quickly.
- Understand basic LLM concepts including prompts, context, APIs, structured outputs, latency, hallucinations, and model limitations.
- Have experience, or strong working knowledge, of integrating LLM APIs into product experiences.
- Design AI-native experiences such as assistants, conversational interfaces, recommendations, intelligent search, personalization, and generative workflows.
- Understand that AI UX is probabilistic and requires different thinking from conventional deterministic interfaces.
You should be able to move from:
Idea → Figma → Prototype → Code → User Feedback → Iteration
without requiring multiple teams and handoffs.
- Build functional prototypes in hours or days rather than weeks.
- Use AI and low-code/no-code tools where appropriate.
- Know when something needs production-grade engineering and when a prototype is sufficient.
- Run rapid experiments before committing significant engineering resources.
- Be comfortable throwing away an approach when the data or user feedback says it isn't working.
We are particularly interested in people who think beyond screens.
You should be able to ask:
- What user problem are we solving?
- Why will the user care?
- What behaviour are we trying to change?
- Where is the friction?
- What metric should move if this works?
- What is the fastest way to validate the hypothesis?
- Should we build this at all?
You should understand product metrics such as activation, conversion, engagement, retention, funnels, drop-offs and experimentation .
Experience building consumer technology products is highly preferred.
Design
- Figma
- UX architecture
- Interaction design
- Prototyping
- Design systems
- Responsive/mobile-first design
- User research and usability principles
Engineering
- React.js
- JavaScript / TypeScript
- HTML / CSS
- Next.js preferred
- Tailwind CSS preferred
- API integration
- Component architecture
- Git/GitHub
AI
- AI-assisted coding
- Cursor / Claude Code / Copilot or equivalent
- LLM APIs and AI product concepts
- Prompt and context design
- Rapid AI prototyping
- AI-native UX patterns
You don't believe your job ends when the Figma file is complete.
You enjoy seeing something you designed actually working in the hands of users.
Strong Product TasteYou have an opinion about what makes a great product experience and can explain the reasoning behind your decisions.
High OwnershipIf something isn't working, your first instinct is to understand and solve the problem rather than determine whose responsibility it is.
Comfortable With AmbiguityStartup problems rarely arrive as perfectly written PRDs.
You should be comfortable starting with:
\"We think users have this problem. Figure out what we should build.\"
Speed With JudgmentWe value speed, but not careless execution.
You should know when to ship at 80% , learn from users, and iterate, versus when quality needs to be uncompromising.
Low-Ego CollaborationYou should be comfortable having your designs challenged by founders, engineers, data, and users.
The best solution wins, regardless of who proposed it.
What Would Make You Stand Out- 5–7 years across product design and frontend/product engineering.
- Experience in a zero-to-one startup environment .
- Previously worked as a founding designer, design engineer, product engineer, or similar hybrid role.
- Built and shipped consumer-facing products with meaningful scale.
- Strong portfolio showing actual shipped products rather than only concept designs.
- Can demonstrate interfaces you personally designed and coded .
- Experience building AI-powered consumer products.
- Experience running experiments and using analytics to improve UX.
- Contributions to design systems or component libraries.
- Personal projects built using AI tools.
- Evidence that you build things outside your formal job responsibilities.
This is not a pure graphic design role.
This is not a Figma-only product design role.
This is not a frontend engineering role where designs are simply implemented.
And it is not a role where product, design and engineering operate through long handoffs.
We are looking for someone who can operate across all three disciplines.
Portfolio RequirementsCandidates should share:
- Product design portfolio
- Examples of shipped products
- Figma/design-system work
- GitHub or frontend projects
- Examples of React/Next.js work
- Any AI products, experiments, prototypes or personal projects
We care significantly more about what you have actually built and shipped than certificates or tool lists.
The Person Who Will Thrive HereYou are probably someone who has reached the point where calling yourself only a designer or only an engineer doesn't accurately describe what you do.
You like taking an idea and making it real.
You care about users.
You care about design.
You understand technology.
You use AI aggressively to increase your speed.
And you want enough ownership to influence the product rather than simply execute someone else's specification.
- If you can design it, build it, test it and improve it, we want to talk to you.
