The hiring organisation is a large Indian group with a substantial real estate and infrastructure portfolio, currently expanding its in-house legal capability for the function. The client name is shared with shortlisted candidates at the first conversation.
About the Role
A senior legal role owning the legal and liaisoning agenda for the group's property portfolio, reporting into the Head of Real Estate & Infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Liaisoning
- Support title investigation on properties being acquired or taken up for development
- Coordinate title certificates with advocates and solicitors
- Support litigation matters with documents and inputs to external counsel
- Serve as the point of contact for project-related legal queries
- Legal and regulatory
- Handle regulatory and legal work and liaise with regulators and external counsel
- Maintain and review legal documentation across the real estate portfolio
- Prepare conveyance deeds, lease deeds, contract agreements and society formation documents
- Identify legal issues early and propose solutions that keep projects moving
- Drafting and vetting
- Vet contracts; prepare, scrutinise and finalise sale deeds, LOIs and correspondence
- Review legal and technical circulars issued in regional languages and prepare English-language summaries
- Support annual planning and periodic reviews for the legal function
- Documentation and knowledge
- Coordinate registration of agreements and prepare ancillary documentation
- Design document storage and retrieval processes for the function
- Produce monthly legal reports and dashboards
- Build and maintain a legal knowledge database and track applicable regulation
- Stakeholder engagement
- Keep senior leadership informed on key legal aspects of the properties
- Work with project leadership, function heads and finance internally
- Engage land owners and government authorities externally
Qualifications
- LLB. A Master's degree in law is an advantage
- Substantial hands-on experience in land and property legal work, typically built over twelve years or more. This is a real estate legal role rather than a corporate or financial services compliance role
- Working knowledge of MOFA, the MAO Act and RERA, alongside conveyancing, property and civil law
Required Skills
- Strong drafting and command of legal clauses
- Effective stakeholder management and negotiation across internal and external parties
- Comfort managing several land matters concurrently in a fast-moving project environment
Preferred Skills
- High-ownership role with direct exposure to senior leadership
