Senior Accounts Manager
Department: Finance & Accounts
Reporting To: Management / Directors
Experience: Minimum 10 years of managerial experience
Location: In Office, in New Delhi
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and strategic Senior Accounts Manager to lead the Finance & Accounts function of the company. The ideal candidate should go beyond routine accounting and operational responsibilities and have a proactive, business-oriented approach to financial management.
The person will be responsible for ensuring strong financial controls, accurate and timely reporting, statutory compliance, cash-flow management and providing management with meaningful financial insights to support business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Overall responsibility for day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
- Supervise and ensure accurate and timely sales and expense entries in Tally.
- Prepare and review the monthly Profit & Loss Statement.
- Prepare and monitor monthly cash-flow statements and cash-flow forecasts.
- Analyse revenue, expenses, margins, working capital and profitability.
- Provide management with financial insights, trends and early warnings on potential financial issues.
- Ensure proper accounting controls and timely closure of monthly accounts.
- Stock reconciliation and management
2. Banking & Treasury Management
- Manage all banking activities and relationships with banks.
- Monitor bank balances, fund requirements and daily cash position.
- Plan cash flows and ensure adequate liquidity for business operations.
- Manage bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
- Coordinate with banks for payments, collections, facilities and other banking requirements.
- Maintain strong control over company cash and banking transactions.
3. GST & Statutory Compliance
- Oversee GST compliance, reconciliations and timely payments.
- Coordinate with the Chartered Accountant for GST return filing and related compliances.
- Handle and coordinate responses to GST notices, queries and assessments.
- Ensure timely Income Tax deposits and return filing in coordination with the Chartered Accountant.
- Manage TDS compliance, including deductions, payments, reconciliations and returns.
- Ensure timely PF and ESIC compliance and payments.
- Monitor all statutory deadlines and ensure there are no avoidable penalties or compliance lapses.
4. Payroll Management
- Process and supervise monthly payroll.
- Ensure accurate calculation of salaries, deductions, TDS, PF, ESIC and other applicable components.
- Coordinate with management and employees regarding payroll-related matters.
- Ensure timely salary processing and statutory deposits.
5. Accounts Payable & Vendor Management
- Overall responsibility for Accounts Payable.
- Monitor vendor liabilities and payment schedules.
- Ensure payments are made in accordance with agreed terms and available cash flow.
- Maintain appropriate controls over vendor balances and supporting documentation.
- Work closely with the Junior Accounts Manager for purchase-related accounting.
6. Coordination with Chartered Accountant
- Act as the primary internal finance contact for the company's Chartered Accountant.
- Provide financial data, schedules, reconciliations and documents required for statutory compliance.
- Coordinate for GST, TDS, Income Tax and other statutory filings.
- Ensure timely resolution of accounting and taxation queries.
- Coordinate and assist in the resolution of GST and Income Tax notices and other departmental matters.
7. Management Reporting & Financial Planning
- Present meaningful financial information to management on a regular basis.
- Identify areas of unnecessary expenditure, leakage and financial inefficiency.
- Monitor profitability and margins and highlight significant deviations.
- Assist management in budgeting, financial planning and forecasting.
- Develop systems and controls that improve financial discipline and reduce financial risk.
- Provide proactive recommendations rather than merely reporting historical numbers.
Strategic Expectations
This position is not intended to be purely an operational accounting role.
The successful candidate should:
- Think like a Finance Manager/Business Partner, not merely an accountant.
- Have a strong understanding of the company's overall financial health.
- Proactively identify financial risks, opportunities and areas for improvement.
- Understand the relationship between sales, margins, expenses, working capital, receivables, payables and cash flow.
- Provide management with actionable insights rather than simply preparing reports.
- Anticipate cash-flow and working-capital requirements in advance.
- Establish and strengthen financial processes, controls and reporting systems.
- Question discrepancies and unusual trends rather than simply recording transactions.
- Be comfortable interacting directly with senior management and providing financial recommendations.
Team Structure
The Senior Accounts Manager will lead the Accounts function and be assisted by a **Junior Accounts Manager and Billing Assistant ** who will be responsible primarily for:
- Accounts receivable/outstanding follow-up and reporting
- Purchase entries
- Goods returns
- Credit notes
- Debit note
- Account reconciliations with buyers and sellers
- Invoicing and Eway billing
- Making proformas for sales teams and sending sales orders to warehouse
- Supporting day-to-day accounting activities
The Senior Accounts Manager will supervise, review and integrate this work into the overall financial reporting and control system.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 10 years of relevant managerial experience in Finance & Accounts.
- Strong experience in accounting, taxation, GST, TDS, payroll and statutory compliance.
- Excellent working knowledge of Tally.
- Strong understanding of Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow and working-capital management.
- Experience in handling banking and financial institutions.
- Experience coordinating with Chartered Accountants and tax professionals.
- Experience handling GST and Income Tax notices will be highly preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger business picture.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to independently manage the Finance & Accounts function.
- Should be proactive, commercially aware and strategically minded.
