Director, Network Development & Partnerships, Backup Care
Wellthy · United States
Job Description
Job Overview As our Director of Network Development & Partnerships, you will own the strategy for how Wellthy builds and scales its caregiver and provider network — and then roll up your sleeves to build it. You'll decide which markets to prioritize, how to sequence expansion, and what "good" looks like for network density and quality, then translate that strategy into a concrete build-out playbook. This is a role for someone who has both defined a network build strategy and personally executed it — think of the market-builder leaders who plan and open new markets — rather than someone who only sets direction from a distance or only executes against someone else's plan. You'll partner closely with the VP of Operations and the COO of Backup Care on how network strategy fits into the broader marketplace vision, while owning the network build strategy itself, plus the outreach, partnership development, and caregiver recruiting that bring it to life. Essential Duties:
- Own the strategy and playbook for how Wellthy builds and scales its backup care network — prioritizing markets, sequencing expansion, and setting the standards for coverage, density, and provider quality
- Translate that strategy into concrete outreach plans and territory goals for the team, and adjust the strategy as market data comes in
- Lead grassroots outreach to daycare centers, elder care facilities, backup care agencies, and other local providers to build a dense, high-quality partner network in new and existing markets
- Own end-to-end in-home provider partnerships, including provider recruiting where appropriate to keep the network staffed with reliable, trusted caregivers
- Negotiate and close partnership agreements with vendors, setting terms that balance coverage, cost, and quality
- Coordinate with Trust & Safety to run credentialing and background-check processes so every provider and caregiver in the network meets Wellthy's safety and trust standards
- Track and report on network health metrics — geographic coverage, partner density, caregiver fill rates, and time-to-fill — and adjust outreach tactics based on the data
- Manage and coach a small team of network builders/recruiters, assigning territories and driving them toward coverage and fill-rate goals
- Flag network gaps, provider feedback, and caregiver supply issues to inform platform improvements
- Coordinate with Finance & Revenue Operations on the billing and reimbursement mechanics that affect network partners
- Partner with Client Success, Sales, and Marketing to confirm provider and caregiver availability ahead of new employer launches
- 6+ years building networks, partnerships, or supply from scratch in a marketplace, gig-economy, or two-sided platform business (e.g., DoorDash, Instacart, Uber, Wag, or similar), including experience defining the network build strategy — not just executing against one
- Track record of setting market-prioritization and expansion strategy, and personally opening new markets or networks against it
- Demonstrated success recruiting and vetting service providers, gig workers, or caregivers at scale
- A true “boots on the ground” operator who is equally comfortable setting strategy and personally doing the outreach, cold calling/emailing, and closing local partnerships — not someone who only plans or only executes
- Experience managing or mentoring a small team, with the ability to set clear territory goals and hold people accountable to them
- Comfortable juggling many local relationships and priorities at once without losing momentum on any of them
- Excellent relationship-building and negotiation skills with external partners and vendors
- Desire to work in a startup environment: rigorous, energetic, and flexible
- Remote work environment.
- Medical, dental and vision benefits within 30 days of hire.
- Retirement saving account with matching company contributions.
- Mental health benefits.
- 15 days paid vacation, two additional days for each subsequent years (up to a maximum of 25 days).
- Sick, Mental Health and Caregiving Days.
- Professional development initiatives for growth.
- Generous parental leave (maternal and paternal) during a new child’s first year (born into family or adopted) and pregnancy loss leave.
- Private, with secure (not public) internet and phone access
- Suitable to safely and securely accommodate the sensitive information that you will be handling and communicating
- Given the nature of the material you will be working on and handling, you are required to work from a private, dedicated, distraction-free space
