Description

Support substation projects from the conceptual phase through completion. Prepare and develop substation design packages, including, but not limited to, physical arrangement above and below grade, protective relaying and control, electrical studies such as grounding and lightning analysis, and lighting and security. Develop substation calculations, including, but not limited to, insulation, AC station service, DC systems and battery sizing, voltage drop, cable sizing, and conduit fill. Prepare design sketches, cost estimates, equipment specifications, bill of materials, and other required deliverables. Apply intermediate knowledge of IEEE, NESC, and other industry and utility standards, guides, specifications and procedures. Support field inspections for substation facilities on public and private utility systems. Research and compile project-related data as required by the project managers. Support client presentations, reports, and visualizations to demonstrate technical results and project status. Identify, communicate and support the resolution of issues on projects as needed. Work with the project manager to support the project schedule and meet deadlines. Work closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to the clients satisfaction and that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines. Perform design quality reviews. Meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel to develop relationships with key client points of contact. Support the preparation of proposals and client presentations during the proposal process. Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year. Domestic Travel up to 25% is required based on project needs. Multiple Positions Available.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelors degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology,

  • or a directly related field from an ABET accredited program plus five (5) years of substation engineering experience. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Masters in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, plus four (4) years of substation engineering experience in lieu of a Bachelors degree plus five (5) years of described experience.

*A Bachelors Degree in any Electrical or Engineering Technology field must be accompanied with completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

Must have at least four (4) years of experience in each of the following:

  • Develop scopes of work, conceptual designs and execution plans.

  • Protection and control design, including panel arrangements, onelines, AC schematics, DC schematics, equipment and relay panel wiring diagrams.

  • Prepare calculations for the studies and reports (AC/DC load studies, grounding report etc.).

  • Provide short-term field support during construction.

  • Perform voltage drop calculations and AC/DC equipment sizing calculations.

  • Familiar with National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and IEEE/ANSI standards.

  • Experience with standard engineering techniques and procedures as applied to substation design.

  • Utilize AutoCAD, Microstation or equivalent programs (such as ACADE).

Telecommuting is allowed up to 30 days per year. Domestic Travel up to 25% is required based on project needs.
