Management Accountant

Role Purpose

The Management Accountant will support the UK & Ireland Financial Controller in delivering accurate financial reporting, maintaining robust financial controls and providing insightful financial analysis across the UK & Ireland business.

The role is responsible for delivering high-quality management accounting, maintaining balance sheet integrity, supporting budgeting and forecasting, coordinating intercompany accounting activities, assisting with statutory reporting and supporting continuous improvement across the finance function.

This is a hands-on role within a collaborative finance team, requiring a proactive individual with strong analytical skills, attention to detail and a willingness to support the wider finance team where required.

Key Responsibilities

Management Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts and supporting analysis for assigned entities and business areas.
  • Perform month-end close activities, including journals, accruals, prepayments and other accounting adjustments.
  • Prepare monthly reporting packs with clear financial commentary and variance analysis.
  • Ensure reporting deadlines are achieved accurately and on time.

Cost Accounting & Financial Analysis

  • Prepare and analyse Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), overhead expenditure, gross margins and business performance.
  • Review cost allocations and ensure costs are accurately recorded across the business.
  • Support profitability analysis by customer, business unit, service line or project where appropriate.
  • Produce financial analysis to identify trends, risks and opportunities, supporting operational and commercial decision-making.

Intercompany Accounting

  • Lead the monthly intercompany journal process and trading reconciliations across relevant entities.
  • Investigate and resolve intercompany differences in collaboration with UK and overseas finance teams.
  • Ensure intercompany balances are accurately recorded and fully supported.

Balance Sheet Control

  • Prepare and maintain accurate balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintain the integrity of assigned balance sheet accounts through regular review and investigation.
  • Resolve reconciling items promptly and maintain appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Support month-end, quarter-end and year-end close activities as required.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning

  • Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow planning activities.
  • Analyse actual performance against budget and forecast.
  • Support financial modelling and ad hoc planning exercises where required.

Statutory Reporting & Compliance

  • Support statutory reporting, year-end accounts and external audit requirements.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and ensure compliance with Group accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Support tax and other regulatory reporting activities where required.

Business & Stakeholder Support

  • Build effective working relationships across Finance, Operations and Sales.
  • Provide timely financial information and analysis to support business decision-making.
  • Respond to ad hoc financial queries and reporting requests from stakeholders.

Continuous Improvement & Team Support

  • Support continuous improvement of finance processes, systems and reporting.
  • Contribute to finance transformation and business improvement projects.
  • Support the wider UK & Ireland Finance team where required.
  • Undertake other finance and reporting responsibilities appropriate to the role.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Part-qualified, finalist or newly qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
  • Minimum 2 years' relevant experience in Management Accounting or Financial Accounting.
  • Experience preparing management accounts, month-end reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Good understanding of budgeting, forecasting and basic statutory reporting requirements.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyse and interpret financial data.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet reporting deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with Finance, Operations and Sales teams.

Desirable

  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics NAV or a similar ERP system.
  • Experience working within a multi-entity environment.
  • Experience with intercompany accounting and reconciliations.
  • Experience supporting audit processes.
  • Experience with financial reporting tools such as Power BI.
  • Exposure to finance process improvement or transformation projects.
