We've doubled the size of our emergency department and added a separate, designated pediatric emergency room. Labor and delivery suites have been refreshed to offer a spa-like atmosphere. Surgical suites have been outfitted with the latest technologies. And our Outpatient Rehabilitation Center has been upgraded with the latest equipment. Our 382-bed hospital, located in North Miami Beach, serves the regions of North Miami-Dade and South Broward, and it's one of Jackson Health System's four full-service hospitals. Summary Patient Advocate will enhance the patient experience and promote greater continuity of care by assisting patients in scheduling follow-up care in advance of discharge, educating patients about the importance of follow-up care, and participating in other care continuity initiatives within the department as needed. Responsibilities Directly assists patients with scheduling appropriate follow-up visits prior to their discharge from the emergency department. Educates patients on the importance of seeking follow-up care and actively engaging in their own care journey. Verify patient's insurance eligibility as needed. Records basic data regarding each patient interaction, such as whether the patient was able to schedule an appropriate follow-up visit. This position is customer service-oriented with patient-centric attitude, effective planning and organizational skills, an ability to be accountable for quality customer service, and respond appropriately to a variety of personalities and situations. The ability to maintain patient confidentiality is essential. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned. Experience Generally, requires 2 to 3 years of related experience. Education High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Bachelor's degree is preferred. Skill Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. Credentials Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.
