Position Summary
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the reliable, safe, and costeffective operation of all mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems within an industrial chemical wastewater treatment plant and a parallel UltraPure Water (UPW) production plant. This role leads a multidisciplinary maintenance team, drives preventivemaintenance programs, manages capitalproject upgrades, and ensures compliance with environmental, safety, and quality regulations. The engineer acts as the technical authority for troubleshooting, rootcause analysis, and continuousimprovement initiatives that maximize plant availability and product water quality.Role and Responsibilities
Heres What Youll Be Responsible For:
Develop & Execute Maintenance Strategies
- Create preventive and predictivemaintenance (PM/PdM) programs for pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, RO/EDI systems, dosing equipment, and utilities.
- Track and improve key reliability metrics (availability, MTBF, MTTR).
Drive CapitalProject Management
- Scope, budget, procure, and commission upgrades (e.g., pumpvibration monitoring, PLC/HMI modernization, new watertreatment modules).
- Ensure projects meet cost, schedule, safety, and quality targets.
RootCause Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Conduct Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA) and RootCause Analyses (RCA) on major equipment failures.
- Implement reliabilitycentered maintenance (RCM) and Lean/SixSigma improvements to reduce downtime and waste.
Ensure Regulatory & Quality Compliance
- Maintain compliance with EPA wastewater regulations, OSHA, ISO 14001/9001, and UPwater quality specs (conductivity, TOC, microbiology).
- Keep accurate maintenance records, permit, and audit trails.
Data Management & Automation Integration
- Use CMMS (e.g., Maximo, SAP PM) and analytics platforms (PI, PowerBI) for conditionmonitoring, KPI reporting, and predictive analytics.
- Collaborate with controlsystem engineers to refine alarm strategies and setpoint optimization.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide expert troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation issues across both plants.
Skills and Qualifications
Here's what you'll need:
A bachelors degree in mechanical, or chemical engineering.
5-10 years of experience in industrial wastewater treatment systems and or UPW treatment systems.
Proficiency in Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) & Reliability.
Knowledge of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Regulations.
The current base salary range for this role is between $76,000 - $174,500. Individual base pay rates will depend on factors including duties, work location, education, skills, qualifications and experience. Total compensation for this position will include a competitive benefits package and may include participation in company incentive compensation programs, which are based on factors to include organizational and individual performance.
