Controller - Media (NYC)

Atlas Search is recruiting a Controller for a New York-based digital media company with an advertising-driven revenue model. This is a hands-on leadership seat. You will own the close, the audit and technical accounting, and lead the AR and AP teams while improving the processes and systems behind them.

Compensation: $140,000 to $180,000
Location: New York, NY (2 days/week onsite)
What You’ll DoRun the monthly close and financial statement preparation, partnering with the accounting team and business stakeholders to shorten the close timelineServe as point person for the annual audit and prepare supporting schedules for the audited financialsReview reconciliations and journal entries for GAAP accuracy and documentation, and prepare variance analysisLead and develop the AR and AP teams, building processes that are efficient and scale with the businessManage and mentor the accounting staffPrepare investor reporting and debt compliance packages for lendersOversee federal and state tax compliance alongside outside registered agentsSupport ad sales reporting and commission tracking in partnership with the sales organizationHelp shape accounting policies and lead accounting system implementations and enhancementsWhat We’re Looking ForCPA and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field10+ years of accounting experience, including Controller-level ownership in media, advertising or a business with a comparable revenue modelStrong revenue recognition expertise, including multiple-element arrangements, plus complex transactions and stock-based compensationExperience reviewing both customer and vendor contractsA record of managing AR and AP teams and putting new processes and systems in placeA people leader who communicates clearly with executives and non-finance colleagues and stays steady under pressurePreferredA mix of public accounting and private industry experienceMedia and/or start-up experienceFamiliarity with advertising revenue modelsNetSuite
