Senior Probation Officer – HMP Wandsworth (2557B) Published: May 2, 2026 About the role This is a full-time temporary contract for 6 months, based at HMP Wandsworth. This is a senior-level opportunity within the Probation Service, offering the chance to lead a team, support operational delivery, and contribute directly to public protection and reducing reoffending within a custodial environment. The post is paying £26.02 per hour PAYE£34.26 per hour Umbrella Overview of the Role As a Senior Probation Officer (SPO), you will take on a leadership role, managing staff and overseeing the delivery of high-quality offender management. You will ensure that operational standards are met, policies are implemented effectively, and that the team contributes to reducing reoffending and protecting the public. The role requires strong leadership, organisational skills, and a thorough understanding of probation practice, risk management, and multi‑agency working. Duties and Responsibilities Managing a team to deliver effective Offender Management and achieve high standards of public protectionProviding day‑to‑day leadership, performance management, and support to staffEnsuring effective allocation, monitoring, and completion of work within the teamContributing to multi‑agency public protection arrangements and partnership workingReviewing casework and providing feedback to maintain quality and complianceSupporting change management initiatives and driving improvements in quality and efficiencyEnsuring implementation of policies, procedures, and National StandardsMaintaining accurate records using NDelius and OASysPromoting and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety policiesBuilding and maintaining effective relationships with internal teams and external agenciesChampioning equality, diversity, and inclusionSupporting the wider operational objectives of the Probation ServiceUndertaking additional duties appropriate to the role as required Person Specification A recognised Probation Officer qualification (PQF Graduate Diploma/ Honours Degree in Community Justice with Level 5 Diploma in Probation Practice, or equivalent recognised qualification)Experience working within a recognised provider of probation services within the last 5 yearsManagement experience, including day‑to‑day staff and performance managementExperience contributing to public protection through multi‑agency working and case reviewExperience of managing or supporting change and improving service deliveryStrong knowledge of offender management, risk assessment, and public protection frameworksExperience using NDelius and OASys systemsUnderstanding of Health & Safety legislation in the workplaceKnowledge of victim engagement considerationsStrong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlinesAbility to build and maintain effective working relationships across agenciesExcellent communication skills (written and verbal)Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekendsStrong knowledge of the Criminal Justice System, Probation Service, legislation, and National StandardsCommitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion The Red Snapper Recruitment Group is an equal opportunities employer. #J-18808-Ljbffr
