Financial Controller

We are looking for a Finance Controller to lead Plush’s finance controllership function and ensure strong financial discipline, accurate reporting, robust controls, and regulatory compliance as the business scales. The role will be responsible for managing the end-to-end accounting and controllership function , driving timely monthly closures and MIS, overseeing taxation and statutory compliance, strengthening internal controls, and providing meaningful financial insights to the leadership team. The ideal candidate should be commercially oriented, highly analytical, detail-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment. Key Responsibilities 1. Financial Controllership & Accounting Own the end-to-end accounting and financial controllership function. Ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions. Lead monthly, quarterly and annual financial closing processes. Review P&L, balance sheet, cash flow and other financial statements. Ensure appropriate accounting policies, provisions, accruals and reconciliations. Drive timely closure of books and resolution of accounting issues. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed assets and bank reconciliations. 2. MIS & Management Reporting Prepare and present monthly financial MIS and management dashboards. Provide insights on revenue, margins, operating costs, working capital and profitability. Track actuals against budgets and forecasts and highlight key variances. Develop business-specific financial metrics and dashboards for leadership. Partner with business teams to improve financial visibility and decision-making. 3. Budgeting & Financial Planning Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process. Work closely with business and functional heads on budget preparation. Monitor monthly budget utilisation and identify cost optimisation opportunities. Build financial models for new initiatives, investments and business decisions. Support leadership with scenario planning and financial projections. 4. Working Capital & Cash Flow Own cash flow planning and forecasting. Monitor receivables, payables, inventory and overall working capital. Improve cash conversion and optimise working capital cycles. Ensure adequate cash availability for business operations. Monitor collections and payment cycles in coordination with relevant teams. 5. Taxation & Statutory Compliance Ensure timely compliance with GST, TDS, income tax, Companies Act and other applicable regulations. Coordinate with tax consultants, auditors and other external advisors. Review GST/TDS reconciliations and statutory filings. Manage tax assessments, notices and related matters. Ensure timely completion of statutory and tax audits. 6. Audit & Internal Controls Lead statutory, internal and tax audit processes. Act as the primary finance point of contact for auditors. Strengthen financial controls, processes and approval mechanisms. Identify financial and operational risks and implement appropriate controls. Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards. Drive process improvements and automation across finance operations. 7. Business Partnering Partner with leadership and functional teams to evaluate business performance. Provide financial inputs for pricing, procurement, marketing spends, inventory decisions and expansion plans. Evaluate ROI and profitability of key business initiatives. Challenge business assumptions and provide data-backed recommendations. Build a strong culture of financial accountability across the organisation. 8. Team Leadership Lead, mentor and develop the finance and accounting team. Define clear processes, responsibilities and performance metrics. Improve efficiency through automation and standardisation. Build scalable finance processes to support Plush's growth. Key Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of accounting and financial controllership. Excellent knowledge of Ind AS / Indian accounting standards . Strong understanding of GST, TDS, income tax and statutory compliance . Strong MIS and financial analysis skills. Excellent knowledge of P&L, balance sheet and cash flow management . Strong budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling skills. Working capital and cash-flow management. Strong analytical and problem-solving ability. High attention to detail and financial discipline. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Strong proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and accounting/ERP systems.
