Job Description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Vice President, Engineering based in the United States. This is a senior technology leadership role focused on shaping technical strategy across a core data platform and an expanding portfolio of AI products. You will define architecture, engineering practices, and long-term roadmaps while remaining close enough to execution to guide critical technical decisions. As a player-coach, you will balance strategic leadership with hands-on involvement in systems, delivery, and complex technical challenges. You will lead a growing, cross-functional organization spanning engineering, product, data, and AI, while attracting and developing exceptional technical talent. The role offers significant influence over the transition toward AI-centric products, tooling, workflows, and development practices. You will also serve as a senior technical voice with customers, partners, industry peers, and the broader technology community. This opportunity is well suited to an experienced engineering executive who thrives in ambiguity, drives meaningful change, and combines technical depth with strong business judgment. \nAccountabilities

  • Serve as the senior technical voice within the leadership team, contributing to business strategy, planning, and major organizational decisions.
  • Own and evolve the technical roadmap across the core data platform and emerging AI products, ensuring architectural cohesion, scalability, reliability, and long-term maintainability.
  • Lead architecture and technology decisions across data, platform, software, and AI systems while balancing speed of innovation with operational resilience.
  • Operate as a player-coach by staying engaged with technical systems, trade-offs, critical decisions, and delivery while empowering engineering teams to execute independently.
  • Guide the organization toward AI-centric product development through modern tooling, workflows, engineering practices, and practical approaches to deploying AI systems in production.
  • Lead and integrate cross-functional teams across product, engineering, data, and AI, initially overseeing an organization of approximately 15 people.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing technical talent while establishing a strong engineering culture and raising technical standards.
  • Research emerging technologies, engineering practices, and industry trends; evaluate potential technology partnerships, acquisitions, and opportunities for internal adoption.
  • Represent the organization externally as a technology and data science leader by building relationships with industry peers, participating in high-level customer and sales discussions, engaging with the media, and contributing to the broader technical community.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership when necessary to unblock teams, resolve critical issues, and navigate complex or ambiguous engineering challenges.
Requirements
  • Significant experience leading software, platform, data engineering, or technology organizations in a hands-on senior leadership capacity.
  • Practical experience building, deploying, and operating AI systems in production, with a strong understanding of their real-world applications and constraints.
  • Proven ability to define and execute technical roadmaps across multiple products, platforms, or technology domains.
  • Strong architectural expertise with complex, data-intensive systems, distributed systems, and modern cloud platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience building and scaling AI products in production environments.
  • Ability to engage deeply with technical details when required while maintaining a strategic, organization-wide perspective.
  • Proven success hiring, developing, leading, and retaining high-performing engineering and technical teams.
  • Strong executive presence, with clear and direct communication skills and the confidence to make and stand behind difficult technical decisions.
  • Data-driven and outcomes-oriented approach, with strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment in ambiguous environments.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders, align cross-functional teams, and communicate complex technical concepts in terms of business value and customer outcomes.
  • Comfortable leading organizations through significant technological and cultural change, particularly toward AI-centric products and development practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
  • Candidates must currently reside in DC, Illinois, Maryland, New York, or Virginia.
Benefits
  • Annual salary of $200,000.
  • Remote work opportunity within eligible U.S. locations.
  • Opportunity to shape the technical strategy and AI transformation of a growing organization.
  • Significant executive-level ownership across engineering, data, product, and AI.
  • Opportunities to build and develop high-performing technical teams.
  • Inclusive culture that values diverse perspectives, individuality, and equal opportunity.
  • Professional growth through exposure to emerging AI technologies, complex data systems, and industry thought leadership.
  • Support for employee community engagement and broader technology initiatives.
  • Reasonable accommodations available for qualified individuals with disabilities or special needs.
