Job Title: Head Sommelier

Location: Delhi

Reports to: Sr F&B - Manager

JOB Description

The Sommelier is responsible for managing and delivering exceptional wine and beverage experiences at Design District, Stonex. The role focuses on wine curation, professional service, guest engagement, inventory management, staff training, and execution of wine-led experiences across dining and event spaces, while upholding the highest standards of hospitality and brand representation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Wine Service & Guest Engagement

i) Deliver professional wine service, including presentation, pouring, temperature control, and glassware standards.

ii) Recommend wines based on guest preferences, menus, and occasions.

iii) Conduct wine tastings, guided sessions, and educational experiences for guests and groups.

iv) Act as a brand ambassador, ensuring memorable and personalized guest experiences.

2. Events & Experience Management

i) Manage wine and beverage service for events hosted in Design District event spaces.

ii) Coordinate with operations, culinary, and events teams for seamless service delivery.

iii) Design and execute bespoke wine experiences for private events, tastings, and brand activations.

iv) Ensure service excellence during high-profile and large-format events.

3. Inventory & Cellar Management

i) Handle receiving, stacking, labeling, storage, and rotation of wine stocks.

ii) Maintain optimal cellar conditions and organization standards.

iii) Monitor inventory levels, breakage, and wastage; assist with ordering and replenishment.

iv) Support periodic stock counts and audits.

4. Training & Team Development

i) Conduct regular wine training sessions for service staff.

ii) Develop and maintain wine SOPs, tasting notes, and service guidelines.

iii) Coach team members on wine service etiquette, upselling, and guest interaction.

5. Compliance & Quality Standards

i) Ensure compliance with applicable alcohol service laws and regulations.

ii) Maintain hygiene, safety, and quality standards at all times.

iii) Adhere to Design District grooming, conduct, and service excellence standards.

6. Additional Duties

i) Updating of Menus whenever required.

ii) Stay updated on global wine trends, regions, producers, and tasting techniques.

iii) Assist management in wine menu planning, pricing, promotions, and guest feedback analysis.

iv) Perform all other duties and responsibilities typically associated with the role of a professional

Sommelier.

Educational Qualifications

Certification in Wine Studies (WSET level 3 / CMS / equivalent preferred).

Experience

Should have worked in a luxury space and have a good knowledge of handling guests.
