Job Description
Role Overview:
We are looking for a trained and empathetic counselor to support the social, emotional, and psychological wellbeing of students from underprivileged backgrounds. The role involves structured 1:1 counseling, group counseling sessions, and delivering Social Emotional Learning (SEL) classes as part of the regular school timetable.
Key Responsibilities:
• Individual Counseling
◦ Conduct regular 1:1 sessions with students dealing with academic, personal, or family-related challenges
◦ Identify students requiring support through teacher referrals, self-referrals, and proactive observation
◦ Maintain confidential case records and track student progress over time
◦ Escalate cases requiring external or specialist intervention appropriately
• Group Counseling
◦ Facilitate structured group sessions on themes such as peer relationships, self-esteem, identity, & resilience
◦ Adapt group interventions based on student age, developmental stage, and emerging needs
• Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
◦ Design and deliver SEL classes across grades covering self-awareness, emotional regulation, empathy, and responsible decision-making
◦ Orient and train class teachers to reinforce SEL themes within the broader classroom environment
• Teacher & Parent Collaboration
◦ Work with teachers to identify students showing signs of distress or difficulty
◦ Conduct structured parent sessions on student wellbeing and social-emotional development
◦ Build teacher capacity in basic social-emotional support and referral practices
• Documentation & Reporting
◦ Maintain organised records of all counseling interactions, SEL sessions, and interventions
◦ Share periodic reports with school leadership on student wellbeing trends
◦ Ensure compliance with child safety and confidentiality protocols
What We're Looking For:
• Master's degree in Psychology, Applied Psychology, or Counseling; RCI registration preferred
• Minimum 2 years of experience in school counseling or child and adolescent mental health
• Training or hands-on experience in delivering SEL programs
• Ability to build trust with children from underprivileged backgrounds
• Strong documentation, communication, and case management skills
• Professional maturity and sensitivity in handling student disclosures and difficult family situations
