About DOGPOUND
DOGPOUND is a private members-only performance club combining personalized training, exceptional hospitality, and a distinctive brand experience. Our team works closely with each member to develop customized programs that challenge, inspire, and support their individual fitness goals.
Our five pillars of Teamwork, Positivity, Passion, Authenticity, and Giving Back guide how we serve our members, support one another, and represent the brand.
Role Overview
We are seeking an accomplished General Manager to lead our New York location, overseeing team operations, membership sales, service delivery, account management, programming, and onboarding for employees and members.
The ideal candidate combines strong fitness-club management capabilities with demonstrated luxury hospitality experience, commercial discipline, and exceptional attention to detail. You understand that a premium experience depends on consistent execution, from the quality of member interactions to the presentation of the space and the accuracy of every follow-up.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a visible presence on the club floor, confident decision-making, and full accountability for daily execution. You will develop the team, drive business performance, and ensure DOGPOUND's policies and service standards are maintained consistently.
Luxury hospitality, brand awareness, and meticulous standards management are essential requirements. Fitness-management experience alone is not sufficient.
Responsibilities
Sales and Growth
- Deliver performance against revenue, membership, paid-session, merchandise, prospect-contact, and lead-generation targets. Actively oversee inquiries, follow-up, conversion, and member onboarding.
- Optimize trainer schedules and staffing capacity to support membership growth, session availability, and efficient utilization while protecting service quality.
- Develop and execute approved sales initiatives, corporate outreach, and promotional activity consistent with DOGPOUND's positioning and commercial policies.
- Submit daily scorecards and performance reports to leadership, identifying trends, explaining shortfalls, and recommending corrective action.
- Achieve sales and operating-budget goals through disciplined planning. Track member retention, renewals, cancellations, and service feedback alongside new sales to support sustainable growth.
Member Focus and Luxury Hospitality
- Build strong member relationships while maintaining clear management priorities. Personal training delivery should remain limited to once or twice per week and must not interfere with leadership responsibilities.
- Oversee a seamless member journey across inquiries, onboarding, scheduling, arrival, training coordination, follow-up, and renewal. Ensure accurate communication and dependable handoffs between team members.
- Establish a service culture that anticipates needs, recognizes relevant member preferences, and delivers personalized attention with discretion and appropriate professional boundaries.
- Resolve concerns calmly and thoughtfully, follow through on commitments, and address the underlying causes of service failures. Apply membership and access policies consistently while ensuring members feel respected and well cared for.
Personnel Management
- Lead all local trainers and support staff, including recruitment, hiring, onboarding, development, performance evaluation, corrective action, and employee departures.
- Maintain appropriate staffing levels within budget. Set clear expectations for punctuality, preparation, presentation, communication, conduct, and quality of work.
- Conduct weekly staff meetings and quarterly individual reviews with front desk staff and trainers, and participate in required monthly leadership meetings.
- Coach employees through direct, constructive feedback. Address underperformance promptly, document expectations and corrective actions, and apply standards fairly across roles and seniority.
- Foster a positive, inclusive team environment that supports collaboration, professional development, operational improvement, and accountability. Ensure employees understand both the required standard and the reason behind it.
Club Operations and Financial Management
- Oversee front desk execution, including member check-in, telephone and written inquiries, overdue accounts, booking accuracy, and trainer schedules. Ensure opening, closing, and shift-handover procedures are completed consistently.
- Maintain a clean, safe, fully operational facility. Coordinate equipment servicing, preventative maintenance, supplies, inventory, and vendor performance, minimizing disruption to scheduled training.
- Manage the location's operating budget and profit-and-loss performance in coordination with leadership. Maintain accurate payroll inputs, billing records, purchasing controls, and expense reporting.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and recurring problems, establish corrective plans, and verify completion. Maintain incident-reporting and emergency-response procedures, escalating significant concerns promptly with relevant facts and recommended action.
Brand Standards, Presentation, and Quality Control
- Translate DOGPOUND's approved policies and service standards into clear procedures, checklists, staff training, and inspection routines. Ensure consistent execution across every shift.
- Conduct detailed daily walkthroughs covering cleanliness, equipment placement, supplies, staff presentation, lighting, sound levels, signage, and the condition of member-facing spaces. Notice and address small inconsistencies before they affect the member experience.
- Protect DOGPOUND's visual identity, communication standards, and reputation. Ensure written materials, member communications, photography, filming, visitor access, and partner activity follow approved guidelines and authorization procedures.
- Assign responsibility and deadlines for corrections, follow up, and verify that improvements last. Enforce policies consistently, including with established or high-performing employees, and seek approval for decisions outside delegated authority.
The expectation is sustained execution, not repeated reminders. Standards must remain consistent whether or not ownership is present.
Events
- Plan and deliver monthly club events and approved promotions, coordinating staffing, member communication, vendors, setup, and restoration of the space.
- Ensure events and corporate outreach support commercial objectives, follow brand and access policies, and minimize disruption to member training. Obtain required approvals before making commitments or introducing partner activity.
Job Requirements
We are looking for candidates who bring:
- At least five years of management experience in a customer-focused fitness, hospitality, or health and wellness environment, with demonstrated responsibility for teams, operations, budgets, and business performance.
- Demonstrated luxury hospitality experience. Candidates must be able to explain the service standards they implemented, how they trained teams to deliver them, and how they maintained consistency. Experience in a luxury hotel, private members' club, premium fitness business, or comparable high-touch environment may qualify.
- Deep knowledge of fitness-club operations, including trainer scheduling, appointment-led service, member relationships, capacity management, and coordination of the training experience.
- A proven commercial track record, including revenue growth, financial management, budget adherence, and member or client retention. Confidence using performance data, spreadsheets, and membership or scheduling systems is essential.
- Advanced proficiency with HubSpot, along with strong working knowledge of Mindbody and Google Workspace.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and follow-through. Strong aesthetic awareness, precise written and verbal communication, and the ability to identify small deviations while prioritizing safety, service, and business needs.
- Confident, respectful leadership and sound judgment. The ability to hold difficult conversations, enforce policies without favoritism, protect confidential information, and remain composed under pressure.
- A four-year degree in business, marketing, hospitality, or management is preferred; equivalent leadership experience will be considered.
- Must have a legal right to work in the United States.
This is an on-site leadership role, and schedule flexibility for early mornings, evenings, and weekends is expected based on operational needs.
What Success Looks Like
The club is consistently prepared, well presented, and professionally managed. Members receive attentive, reliable service. Employees understand expectations and take responsibility for meeting them. Financial performance is actively managed, records are accurate, and recurring problems are resolved at their source.
The General Manager identifies issues proactively, follows through on decisions, and keeps leadership informed without requiring day-to-day direction on established responsibilities.
Compensation and Benefits
Annual base salary: $120,000.
Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off; a 401(k); and an employee discount.
