Job Description – VP Coverage, Merchant Banking

Role Overview

We are looking for a senior Equity Capital Markets / Merchant Banking professional to drive ECM origination, new mandate acquisition, revenue generation and senior client relationships .

The role requires a strong business development orientation, an established market network and a demonstrated track record of originating and converting equity capital-market transactions .

Key Responsibilities

• ECM Origination: Lead origination of Mainboard IPO, SME IPO, QIP, Rights Issue, Preferential Issue and other equity fundraising mandates.
• Business & Revenue Growth: Build a strong ECM pipeline, acquire new mandates and drive revenue growth.
• Promoter Coverage: Build and manage senior-level relationships with promoters, founders, CXOs and business owners across sectors.
• Ecosystem Development: Develop relationships with Chartered Accountants, Merchant Bankers, Investment Bankers, Corporate Lawyers, Financial Advisors, PE/VC Funds, Family Offices and other market intermediaries .
• Mandate Acquisition: Identify companies with capital-raising requirements and independently lead discussions from opportunity identification to mandate conversion.
• Client Advisory: Advise promoters and senior management on IPO readiness, capital-raising strategy, transaction positioning and capital-market opportunities .
• Pitch & Negotiation: Lead pitches, proposals, commercial discussions and negotiations for new mandates.
• Transaction Oversight: Coordinate with ECM execution, legal, compliance and other internal teams for seamless execution of originated mandates.
• Market Intelligence: Track IPO and capital-market activity to identify potential fundraising opportunities across sectors.
• Team Leadership: Mentor and lead team members while building a performance-driven origination culture.

Candidate Profile

• 10+ years of experience in ECM Origination, Merchant Banking, Investment Banking, Corporate Finance or Capital Markets .
• Strong track record of originating and converting IPO / equity capital-market mandates .
• Hands-on exposure to Mainboard IPOs, SME IPOs, QIPs, Rights Issues, Preferential Issues and other equity fundraising transactions .
• Demonstrated ability to independently generate business and revenue .
• Established network among promoters, founders, CXOs and capital-market intermediaries .
• Strong understanding of the Indian equity capital markets and IPO ecosystem .
• Excellent business development, negotiation and senior stakeholder-management capabilities.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong ownership and business-building orientation .
• CA / MBA (Finance) / CFA preferred.

Preferred Background

Senior professionals from Merchant Banking firms, Investment Banks, Capital Market Advisory firms or ECM teams , with a strong track record in origination, promoter coverage, mandate acquisition and revenue generation .
