Assistant Estimator / Estimator / Senior Estimator Bedford, Bedfordshire £45,000–£70,000 + car allowance + bonus + private healthcare Assistant to Senior level considered Office-based with site visits A well-established, financially secure main contractor in Bedford is looking for an Assistant Estimator, Estimator or Senior Estimator. This is a strong opportunity to join a stable business with a secure pipeline of refurbishment, fit-out, extension and new build projects, typically valued from £500,000 to £2 million. An Assistant Estimator will receive support and development, while an experienced Estimator or Senior Estimator will take greater ownership of tenders from initial enquiry through to final submission, working closely with the commercial, operational and pre-construction teams. Salary and Benefits £45,000–£70,000, dependent on experience and level Car allowance Performance-related bonus Private healthcare and pension Full use of the on-site gym Secure pipeline of varied projects The Estimator Role Depending on your level, you will support or lead the review of tender opportunities, preparation of accurate cost estimates, subcontractor and supplier enquiries, coordination of bid information and delivery of competitive, compliant submissions on time. The role is office-based, with site visits as required to support tender reviews, scope understanding and bid preparation. Estimator Responsibilities Prepare construction estimates and tender submissions Review drawings, specifications and scopes of work Issue subcontractor and supplier enquiries and assess quotations Complete take-offs, cost build-ups and pricing documents Identify tender risks, clarifications and value engineering options Coordinate bid information with commercial and operational teams Support tender handovers on successful projects Experience Required Applications are welcome from Assistant Estimators ready to develop, established Estimators and Senior Estimators seeking more responsibility. You should have construction estimating experience with a main contractor or general building contractor, ideally covering refurbishment, fit-out, extension or new build projects. At Assistant level, you should have some exposure to estimating, tendering, take-offs or subcontractor enquiries and be keen to build your experience. At Estimator or Senior Estimator level, you should be confident managing tenders, obtaining and analysing subcontractor prices, building up costs, identifying risk and meeting submission deadlines. A construction qualification is useful but not essential; practical estimating experience and commercial awareness are more important.
