Job Description

About the Company

We manufacture in Faridabad and trade both directions. We import polycarbonate and other polymer grades, moulds and tooling, capital equipment, inks and consumables. We export finished goods, including to the United States and Europe.

About the Role

Today that work depends on external clearing agents and a lot of chasing. We want it owned in-house - someone accountable for landed cost, clearance speed, scheme benefits actually claimed, and compliance that holds up under audit. You'll bring the customs and EXIM expertise. We'll get you the customs pass you need to operate on our behalf (see the note below on cards and licences - please read it, because it corrects a common misunderstanding).

A note on cards - please read

We want you to hold a customs pass in your own name. That's achievable, and here is exactly how it works, so nobody wastes time at interview.

  • A G or H card is issued against the licence of the Customs Broker who employs you. It is surrendered when that employment ends. It cannot come with you to us, because it authorises you to act for that broker.
  • The card that applies here is the Self-category customs pass - issued in your name, under our IEC, for clearing our own consignments. It is genuinely your card. What differs is that we sponsor it instead of a broker, and it covers our shipments rather than third-party clients.

Two routes, and we have a strong preference:

  • Transfer (preferred). If you currently hold a Self-category pass at another importer or exporter, it can be transferred to us. This needs cancellation from your present employer plus an affidavit, and is considerably faster than a fresh application. If this is you, you're the profile we most want to hear from.
  • Fresh application. If you're coming from a customs broker, or from a gap, we will sponsor and fund a fresh Self-card application - ICEGATE registration, attestation, appointment letter, undertakings, police verification, the full file. Published timelines run to around 45 working days plus any deficiency cycle, so expect roughly two to three months. We'll structure your first months around work that doesn't require the pass, and we'll get the application filed in week one.

On CB licences: if you hold a Customs Broker (CHA) licence in your own name, we're glad to talk about what role would suit you. But to be explicit - we are not looking to clear our goods under anyone else's licence. A CB licence isn't lendable, and neither of us should want that exposure.

We're not lawyers and we'll confirm the route with professional advisers before you start. But this is our understanding and we'd rather share it upfront.

What you'll own

  • Customs clearance operations
  • End-to-end import and export clearance across our working locations: ICD Tughlakabad, ICD Patparganj, ICD Ballabhgarh, ICD Garhi Harsaru, IGI Airport Air Cargo, and gateway ports including Nhava Sheva and Mundra
  • Bill of Entry and Shipping Bill filing and management through ICEGATE and e-Sanchit
  • Pre-arrival filing to compress clearance time; active management of examination, query and assessment cycles
  • Handling of amendments, provisional assessments, first-check examinations, and detained or held consignments
  • Escalation and resolution with customs officers, custodians, shipping lines and CFS operators
  • Classification, valuation and duty
  • HS classification of our imports and exports, with defensible reasoning on record
  • Duty computation - BCD, IGST, Social Welfare Surcharge, and any applicable anti-dumping or safeguard duty. Trade remedy activity in polymers is frequent and origin-specific, so we expect this to be actively monitored against our actual grades and countries of origin rather than assumed settled
  • Customs valuation, related-party pricing, and royalty or assist treatment where relevant
  • FTA and preferential origin claims, including CAROTAR due diligence and origin documentation
  • Advance rulings where classification or valuation is genuinely uncertain
  • Export promotion schemes and DGFT
  • Assess, apply for and administer the schemes that fit us: Advance Authorisation, EPCG, duty drawback, RoDTEP, IGCR, and evaluate whether MOOWR bonded manufacturing is worth pursuing given our import-manufacture-export profile
  • Own licence lifecycle end to end - application, utilisation tracking, export obligation monitoring, redemption and EODC closure. Unclosed obligations become expensive surprises and we want them tracked, not discovered
  • Maintain IEC and all DGFT registrations
  • Evaluate AEO certification and drive it if the case holds
  • Logistics and cost
  • Manage freight forwarders, customs brokers where we still use them, transporters and CFS agents; negotiate and benchmark rates
  • Select and structure shipments - FCL, LCL, air, express - against cost, urgency and risk
  • Own Incoterms decisions on our purchase and sales contracts, and understand what each one actually shifts
  • Control demurrage and detention actively. These charges are almost entirely avoidable and are the clearest measure of whether this function is being run well
  • Marine and transit insurance; claims when they arise
  • Trade finance and banking
  • Letters of credit, bank guarantees, documentary collections; document preparation that doesn't get discrepante
  • BRC realisation, FEMA and AD bank compliance, advance remittance and payment documentation
  • Coordinate with finance on IGST refunds on exports, LUT filing, GST on imports, and duty drawback receipts
  • Regulatory and product compliance
  • Import compliance: BIS where applicable, chemical and material documentation, MSDS, restricted-item checks
  • Export destination compliance, working with our customers and their brokers on US and EU entry requirements
  • EPR and plastic waste management obligations - directly relevant to us as a plastics manufacturer, and increasingly enforced
  • Legal metrology and labelling requirements on packaged goods
  • Record-keeping and document retention to withstand post-clearance audit
  • Systems and reporting
  • Maintain an auditable document trail per consignment
