SAP Data Migration Functional Analyst OTC (Order to Cash)

Position Summary

The SAP Data Migration Functional Analyst – Order-to-Cash (OTC) is responsible for the end-to-end functional ownership of assigned SAP data migration objects supporting Order-to-Cash business processes within a large-scale global SAP S/4HANA transformation program.

Key Responsibilities

1. Legacy Data Assessment and Data Profiling

• Perform detailed analysis and profiling of legacy OTC data to understand source-system data structures, relationships, data volumes, completeness, usage patterns, and overall data quality.
• Analyze legacy data volumes at the appropriate organizational levels, including company code, sales organization, distribution channel, division, plant, customer account group, document type, and other relevant dimensions.
• Profile legacy data to identify:
• Duplicate records
• Incomplete data
• Invalid or inconsistent values
• Missing mandatory attributes
• Obsolete customers and sales records
• Inconsistent organizational assignments
• Data quality issues affecting migration readiness
• Identify data quality patterns and determine the scope and estimated effort required for business data cleansing.
• Prepare legacy data assessment and profiling reports and communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to Data Migration and OTC leadership.

2. Data Relevancy Analysis

• Work closely with OTC Functional Teams, Business Data Owners, and cross-functional value streams to define business-driven data relevancy rules that determine which legacy records should be migrated to SAP S/4HANA.
• Facilitate workshops to establish Active versus Inactive criteria for customer master, sales master, and transactional data.
• Develop object-specific relevancy rules using appropriate business criteria such as:
• Recent sales activity
• Open transactions
• Customer account status
• Organizational assignments
• Customer relationships
• Legal or regulatory retention requirements
• Future business requirements
• Analyze dependencies between OTC data and other business process areas when determining migration relevancy.
• Produce relevancy reports identifying records proposed for migration and records proposed for exclusion.
• Review relevancy results with Business Data Owners and obtain business alignment and approval on the proposed migration population.
• Maintain and refine relevancy rules throughout mock conversion cycles as business requirements and migration scope evolve.

3. Data Mapping and Functional Design

• Conduct Data Mapping Workshops with OTC Functional Teams, Business Data Owners, Business SMEs, and other relevant stakeholders.
• Analyze legacy source-system data structures and SAP S/4HANA target requirements.
• Develop and maintain Data Migration Functional Design Specifications (FDS) for assigned OTC migration objects.
• Develop and maintain detailed Field Mapping Documents (FMD) defining:
• Source-to-target field mappings
• Transformation rules
• Default values
• Derivation logic
• Value conversion rules
• Cross-reference (XREF) requirements
• Organizational mapping requirements
• Data cleansing requirements
• Data validation rules
• Identify cross-functional dependencies and mapping requirements involving Finance, PTP, Manufacturing, Logistics, Project Systems, and other value streams.
• Ensure FDS and FMD documentation remains current throughout design, development, testing, mock conversion, and production migration cycles.

4. Business Data Construction and Enablement

• Identify and support Business Data Construction SMEs responsible for assigned OTC migration objects.
• Onboard and train new Business Data SMEs on their data migration responsibilities.
• Provide training and functional guidance covering:
• Data construction templates
• Data cleansing activities
• Cross-reference (XREF) file preparation
• Data relevancy reviews
• Data construction requirements
• Pre-load data validation
• Post-load data validation
• Data reconciliation and business sign-off
• Assist Business SMEs with construction of data that cannot be directly derived or transformed from legacy systems.
• Assist business teams in developing and validating XREF data required to translate legacy values to SAP S/4HANA target values.
• Review business-constructed data files for completeness, consistency, and migration readiness.
• Support resolution of business data quality issues identified during construction and mock conversion cycles.

5. Migration Build Support

• Collaborate closely with SAP BODS or Syniti Data Migration Developers during migration design and build activities.
• Explain functional requirements documented in the Functional Design Specifications and Field Mapping Documents.
• Provide timely clarification of:
• Source-to-target mappings
• Business rules
• Transformation logic
• Defaulting and derivation requirements
• XREF logic
• Relevancy rules
• Validation requirements
• Review ETL implementation with developers to ensure migration logic aligns with approved functional requirements.
• Support developers in analyzing source data and resolving functional questions encountered during ETL development.
• Participate in migration design reviews, code walkthroughs, and migration object readiness reviews as required.

6. Testing and Data Validation

• Develop Functional Unit Test scenarios and expected results for assigned OTC migration objects.
• Perform Functional Unit Testing of migration functionality.
• Work with Data Migration Developers to troubleshoot ETL errors, transformation defects, data load failures, and reconciliation differences.
• Coordinate and assist Business SMEs with:
• Source data validation
• Pre-load validation
• Mock conversion validation
• Post-load validation
• Legacy-to-SAP reconciliation
• Validate that migrated data conforms to approved FDS and FMD requirements.
• Assist in identifying root causes of data defects and determining whether remediation is required in source data, business construction files, XREF data, mapping logic, or ETL code.
• Support defect logging, retesting, and defect closure activities.
• Coordinate business review and approval of post-load reconciliation results.

7. Cross-Functional Data Migration Coordination

• Coordinate with other SAP value streams where OTC migration objects have cross-functional dependencies.
• Work with Record-to-Report (RTR) teams on Business Partner/Customer financial attributes, company-code data, payment terms, reconciliation accounts, credit-related requirements, and other Finance dependencies.
• Work with PTP and Master Data teams where Business Partner structures or common master data are shared across Customer and Supplier roles.
• Coordinate with Manufacturing, Logistics, Warehouse Management, Transportation Management, Project Systems, and other value streams where sales transactions depend on shared master or organizational data.
• Identify migration sequencing dependencies and communicate them to Data Migration leadership.

8. Cutover and Hypercare Support

• Support mock conversions, dress rehearsals, and production migration events.
• Participate in migration cutover planning and readiness reviews.
• Validate that business construction, XREF, relevancy, ETL, and validation activities are complete prior to production migration.
• Coordinate business validation activities during production cutover.
• Support legacy-to-SAP S/4HANA reconciliation and business sign-off.
• Track migration-related issues through resolution during cutover and Hypercare.
• Assist Business SMEs with post-go-live data issues attributable to migration.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience as an SAP Data Migration Functional Analyst supporting Order-to-Cash (OTC) data migration projects.
• 10+ years of SAP consulting experience supporting large global SAP ERP implementation or SAP S/4HANA transformation programs.
• Strong functional understanding of SAP Order-to-Cash processes and associated master and transactional data.
• Demonstrated experience performing legacy data assessment, data profiling, and data quality analysis.
• Experience defining and implementing data relevancy rules for customer, sales, and open transactional data.
• Experience facilitating Data Mapping Workshops with business and SAP functional stakeholders.
• Experience preparing Data Migration Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and detailed Field Mapping Documents (FMD).
• Experience supporting business data cleansing, data construction, and cross-reference (XREF) development.
• Experience coordinating pre-load and post-load business data validation and reconciliation activities.
• Experience working closely with SAP BODS, Syniti, SAP Migration Cockpit, or comparable enterprise ETL/data migration development teams.
• Experience supporting multiple mock conversion cycles and SAP production cutovers.
• Excellent analytical, facilitation, documentation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• SAP S/4HANA Sales and Distribution / Order-to-Cash implementation experience.
• Strong knowledge of SAP Business Partner and Customer Master data structures and organizational relationships.
• Experience with customer master harmonization and conversion from legacy SAP Customer/Vendor models to the SAP S/4HANA Business Partner model.
• Experience migrating complex sales master data, pricing/condition records, and open sales transactions.
• Experience with global SAP implementations involving multiple company codes, sales organizations, distribution channels, divisions, plants, and legacy ERP systems.
• Experience working with SAP BODS and/or Syniti on enterprise-scale SAP data migration programs.
• Familiarity with SAP Activate methodology and Agile delivery frameworks.
• Experience supporting globally distributed business and technical teams.
