Job Description

P OSITION S UMMARY Responsible for production operations during a designated shift. The position will administer American Gypsum policies and procedures to establish and promote safe and healthy working conditions while ensuring compliance with all OSHA regulations and American Gypsum Safety Program requirements. Proficiently supervise a production crew to meet all established goals in safety, product quality, and operating efficiencies. Maintain a competent and motivated production crew. Assist in the performance of all job functions in the production process. R EGULAR D UTIES Establish and maintain safe working conditions and procedures and ensure that all work is performed in a safe manner. Implement and maintain proactive working habits with all plant personnel to promote continuous overall personnel safety. Actively develop, implement and participate in all Company safety and housekeeping programs, rules and procedures, and ensure all Federal, State and other regulatory agency safety requirements are met. Ensure that reporting personnel are trained to promote a safety culture through meetings and contacts. Implement and enforce all Company policies. Act as a role model in compliance with and enforcement of Company policies for all personnel. Ensure production of wallboard that meets or exceeds Company and ASTM specifications and meets all market requirements. Implement the Company quality program. Select, develop, evaluate, train and motivate assigned staff to ensure an effective workforce, maximum utilization of individual capabilities, and adequate continuity of production functions. Develop and implement a comprehensive training program to develop skilled operators at each position and provide back up for all operation positions. Coordinate production personnel work schedules to ensure adequate manpower availability. Ensure production of wallboard at the lowest cost, achieving monthly plan board costs. Control raw materials usage and production labor costs. Assist with the investigation and diagnosis of operating and maintenance problems and implement corrective measures. Play a key role in recognizing machine inadequacies, recommending improvements, and in implementing approved improvements. All other duties and responsibilities, as assigned. M INIMUM Q UALIFICATIONS QUALIFICATIONS Minimum three years' supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong communication skills and willingness to interact with others. Strong team building skills and ability to train others. Ability to plan and conduct meetings and training sessions. Solid writing skills and ability to complete reports and performance evaluations. Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must possess a high school diploma or GED Must possess a valid driver's license. Must be physically capable of extensive standing and walking on concrete floors. Must be physically capable of climbing stairs and ladders. Must possess adequate vision and hearing for safe interaction in a manufacturing environment. This is a safety-sensitive position due to routine close proximity to moving and automatic equipment as well as mobile equipment. E SSENTIAL F UNCTIONS SAFETY Actively implement and participate in all safety programs, rules, and procedures. Maintain proactive working habits with all plant personnel to continuously improve overall safety. Maintain safe working conditions through established housekeeping programs. Position is responsible for the safety performance of those under direct supervision. Ensure compliance with all American Gypsum Safety Program requirements. QUALITY Supervise the production of wallboard that meets or exceeds company and ASTM specifications, and all market requirements. Actively implement and participate in all product quality programs and procedures. Maintain proactive working habits with all plant personnel to continuously improve overall product quality. Position is responsible for the quality of all products, and the performance of those under direct supervision. TRAINING Develop, evaluate, and motivate new and existing employees to ensure skilled performance in the areas of safety, product quality, and equipment operations. Identify deficiencies within those under direct supervision and develop plans to realize improvements. PRODUCTION Achieve company production goals in waste, delay, and line speed. Complete all necessary reporting for accurate recording of wallboard produced. Recommend improvements to improve overall operations. Position is responsible for operating efficiencies of crew, including mill and gypsum blending and receiving areas. PLANT AVAILABILITY Assist with the investigation and diagnosis of plant operating programs. Recommend and initiate courses of action to the Production Manager and General Foreman for improvements. Be available for any issues and/or problems that may arise within area of responsibility. MAINTENANCE Ensure proper use and preservation of all equipment and facilities to ensure long-term continuity of operations. Maintain proactive working habits to improve overall reliability of equipment through communication. Take an active role in troubleshooting upset conditions to assist in resolving equipment issues. COMPANY POLICIES Participate in and implement all established company policies. Act as a role model in compliance and enforcement for all personnel. ALBUQUERQUE PLANT SPECIFIC DUTIES Manage all personnel requirements of the Production department (includes calcining and gypsum handling). Assist in the direction of all Production department shift activities. Complete and review daily operating logs. Assist in maintaining plant detailed product formulations. Develop, review and approve JSA's as needed. Participate in weekly down day maintenance planning meeting. Conduct, participate in and attend weekly safety meetings. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. W ORKING C ONDITIONS Work is performed mainly in the plant's manufacturing areas and offices. Manufacturing areas are not temperature controlled and ambient temperatures are substantially affected by seasonal conditions. Noise and dust levels are typical for gypsum manufacturing facilities. Normal work hours are 12-hour rotating shifts, 7AM-7PM & 7PM-7AM. Must be available for call-ins to assist in diagnosing production/equipment upsets. Occasional additional hours working on special projects may be necessary.
