Job Summary
The Professor of Law is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to law students, conducting and publishing impactful legal research, and contributing to the academic community through service and mentorship. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of legal principles, a proven track record of scholarship, and a passion for shaping the next generation of legal minds.
Key Responsibilities
1. Teaching and Curriculum Development
Design and teach core/foundational law courses (e.g., Constitutional Law, Contracts, Torts) as well as specialized electives within your area of expertise. Develop course syllabi, lectures, assignments, and exams that promote critical thinking and analytical reasoning. Utilize modern pedagogy and educational technologies (e.g., case-study methods, mock trials, and online learning platforms). Grade assessments timely and provide constructive feedback to support student growth.2. Research, Scholarship, and Publications
Maintain an active, high-level research agenda in legal theory, public policy, or specialized areas of practice. Write and publish scholarly articles, essays, and books in prestigious peer-reviewed law journals and academic presses. Present research findings at domestic and international legal conferences, seminars, and symposia. Seek external research grants and fellowships where applicable.3. Student Mentorship and Advising
Serve as an academic and career advisor to law students, helping them navigate course selection, internships, and post-graduation legal careers. Supervise student research projects, independent studies, Master's theses (LL. M.), and Doctoral dissertations (Ph. D./S. J. D.). Coach or advise student organizations, such as moot court teams, mock trial groups, or the law review board.4. Service and Administration
Participate actively in law school and university governance, including serving on departmental, faculty, and university-wide committees. Engage with the broader legal profession (e.g., serving on bar association committees, drafting amicus briefs, or performing pro bono public service). Assist in curriculum review, student recruitment, and faculty hiring initiatives.Required Qualifications
Education: A Juris Doctor (J. D.) degree, Doctor of Juridical Science (S. J. D.), or Ph. D. in Law from an accredited institution. Licensure: Active bar membership/license to practice law (current or prior) is highly preferred. Experience: Minimum of 12+ years of teaching experience in higher education or a strong record of legal scholarship. Significant practical experience in private practice, public service, judiciary, or non-profit legal sectors. Publications: A robust, peer-reviewed publication portfolio demonstrating expertise in specific legal disciplines.Details
