Role Summary
As BPL scales into new modalities, Government & Institutional Business is a growing and strategic piece of the company's overall business plan. We're looking for an Assistant Manager — Government Business to own tender documentation and submission across zones, acting as a single point of contact for the tendering process. You'll advise senior sales colleagues on pricing and bid strategy, and be responsible for producing high-quality, client-tailored tender submissions that put BPL's best foot forward.
Key Responsibilities
Tender Lifecycle Management
- Take ownership of individual tenders handled by the respective Sales teams, controlling key milestones within each submission.
- Manage the tender submission through its entire life cycle, from identification to purchase order handover.
- Follow relevant procedures for tender compilation, authorisation, and dispatch.
- Ensure tenders are submitted consistently ahead of deadlines set by the tendering authority or body.
Market Intelligence & Reporting
- Track tender search systems, newspapers, journals, and relevant tender portals to identify contracts of interest for bidding or market intelligence.
- Maintain and update tender databases and sales records, and produce reports on tenders submitted, won, and their progress with respective teams.
Bid Quality, Compliance & Costing
- Ensure all tenders and business proposals meet relevant specifications, reflect the latest product launches and research, and comply with client requirements.
- Develop costing as part of the quotation process, with a strong understanding of product margins.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Receive and address enquiries from zonal colleagues and clients concerning tenders.
- Follow up meticulously on EMD recovery with tendering authorities and branch commercial officers.
- Interact with zonal teams on tenders being pursued, offering support throughout the tendering life cycle.
- Clarify purchase order receipt and prepare detailed order handover documentation for the Sales and Commercial teams.
- Build strong working relationships with Zonal & Branch Sales, Marketing, Product Specialists, and QARA teams to align on technical specifications and requirements.
Process Ownership & Continuous Improvement
- Continually upgrade technical know-how, working towards being the single point of contact for all zones on tendering and business proposal submission.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in ECE Engineering, B.Tech (ECE), Medical Electronics, or a related field, preferred.
- 3-5 years of relevant tendering documentation and submission experience in an industrial manufacturing environment, preferably in Medical Devices.
- Proficiency in ERP/SAP and other relevant systems and tools, preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong team interaction skills, with the ability to influence and work with personnel at all levels.
- Commercial acumen, with awareness of product costing and margins.
- Good analytical and technical acumen to assess technical requirements and their compatibility with existing product specifications.
- Strong negotiation skills and a deep understanding of product costing.
- Creativity to produce tailored documents that effectively portray and sell the company's products and services.
- Ability to manage multiple, complex projects and changing priorities, with sound decision-making under pressure.
- An ownership mindset, with the attitude to continuously learn and adapt to new challenges.
