Role Description The Head of Department – English is a full-time remote role responsible for leading the English department, overseeing curriculum delivery, and ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all English courses. Day-to-day tasks include designing and reviewing English curricula, coordinating lesson plans, supporting and mentoring English teachers, and monitoring student progress and outcomes. The role includes setting academic standards, organizing assessments, and aligning teaching materials with educational best practices and examination requirements. The Head of Department will also collaborate with leadership on strategic initiatives, contribute to staff development, and maintain consistent communication with colleagues, students, and where appropriate, families. Qualifications
- Candidates should possess strong skills in English Teaching and Education, with a track record of effective classroom practice and learner support.
- Candidates should possess in-depth knowledge of English Literature, including a broad range of texts and critical approaches.
- Candidates should possess credentials as a Qualified Teacher, with relevant teaching certification or licensure.
- Candidates should possess experience in Curriculum Development, including designing schemes of work, assessments, and learning resources.
- Relevant skills such as department leadership, online teaching experience, data-informed instruction, and mentoring educators are highly beneficial.
- A Master’s degree in English, Education, or a closely related field, along with experience leading an English department or subject team, is preferred.
