Costing & Inventory Control Accountant

Location: India

Job Purpose

The Costing & Inventory Control Accountant will be responsible for inventory monitoring, product costing, inventory valuation, reconciliations and margin analysis . The role will work closely with Finance, Warehouse, Procurement, Logistics and Sales to ensure accurate inventory records, effective controls and timely identification of inventory and costing issues.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Control & Monitoring

  • Monitor inventory across warehouses and locations and review all stock movements.
  • Reconcile physical stock, warehouse records and ERP balances.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies, unusual movements and negative stock.
  • Coordinate periodic physical stock counts and cycle counts.
  • Monitor inventory ageing, slow-moving and obsolete stock.
  • Prepare recommendations for inventory adjustments, provisions and write-offs.

Costing & Inventory Valuation

  • Maintain accurate product/SKU costing.
  • Calculate and monitor landed costs, including freight, customs, clearing and handling charges.
  • Review purchase price and other cost variances.
  • Ensure inventory is accurately valued and costs are properly allocated.
  • Analyse product-wise gross margins and identify significant margin movements.

Month-End & Reconciliations

  • Reconcile inventory sub-ledger to the General Ledger.
  • Review GRNs, goods received but not invoiced and inventory cut-off.
  • Complete inventory and costing schedules for month-end closing.
  • Support accurate COGS and gross-margin reporting.
  • Prepare supporting schedules for auditors.

ERP & Controls

  • Ensure inventory transactions and master data are accurately maintained in the ERP.
  • Monitor compliance with inventory control and approval procedures.
  • Identify process/system weaknesses and recommend improvements.
  • Support inventory and costing processes in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central .

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • 3–6 years of relevant experience in cost accounting, inventory accounting or inventory control.
  • Experience in a trading, distribution or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory accounting, costing and reconciliations.
  • Experience with landed costing is preferred.
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central experience is an advantage.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • ACCA, CMA, CA or equivalent qualification is an advantage.
