Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Data Governance Lead with strong expertise in Microsoft Purview and enterprise data governance. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience building and operationalizing data governance frameworks, metadata management, data classification, lineage, data quality, compliance, and governance automation across enterprise Azure data environments.

The role requires someone who can effectively bridge technical data governance with business, security, legal, and compliance requirements .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain enterprise-wide data governance strategies, policies, standards, and operating models aligned with business objectives.
• Manage Microsoft Purview accounts, collections, RBAC, Data Map, Unified Catalog, classification, labeling, and governance capabilities in large-scale environments.
• Design and maintain metadata repositories, business glossaries, data dictionaries, and stewardship models .
• Implement metadata and governance ingestion workflows using Azure Data Factory (ADF), REST APIs, PowerShell, Azure Functions, and Logic Apps .
• Define and implement data classification rules for PII, PCI, PHI, and other sensitive data .
• Integrate data governance and classification with Microsoft Information Protection (MIP), DLP, Insider Risk Management, and compliance capabilities .
• Establish and maintain data lineage , including flows such as ADF → Synapse → Power BI.
• Define data quality KPIs, dashboards, remediation workflows, and governance metrics across business domains.
• Partner with business data owners and stewards to maintain business glossaries and enforce approval and governance workflows.
• Automate governance processes using PowerShell, Azure Functions, and Azure Logic Apps .
• Develop dashboards and reporting for audit logs, compliance, metadata coverage, data quality, and governance adoption .
• Collaborate with business, IT, security, legal, risk, and compliance teams to establish effective governance practices.
• Drive governance awareness, training, adoption, and change management across the organization.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

• 7+ years of experience in Data Governance / Data Management, including 3+ years of hands-on Microsoft Purview experience .
• Proven experience defining, leading, and operationalizing an enterprise data governance framework , including strategies, policies, standards, roles, and processes.
• Strong hands-on expertise in Microsoft Purview , including:
• Data Map
• Unified Catalog
• Collections
• RBAC
• Data classification
• Sensitivity labeling
• Metadata management
• Data discovery
• Governance workflows
• Compliance and lifecycle capabilities
• Experience working with Microsoft Purview at enterprise scale , preferably in environments involving 50TB+ of data .
• Strong knowledge of metadata management, lineage mapping, data classification, and security governance .
• Experience with one or more enterprise data governance platforms such as:
• Informatica / Axon
• Collibra
• Atlan
• IBM Information Governance Catalog
• Strong experience with the Azure data ecosystem , including:
• Azure Data Lake
• Azure Synapse
• Azure SQL Database
• Power BI
• Azure Data Factory
• Experience integrating governance with Snowflake .
• Hands-on experience with REST APIs, PowerShell, Azure Functions, and/or Azure Logic Apps .
• Experience defining data quality KPIs, dashboards, remediation processes, metadata audits, and stewardship workflows .
• Strong understanding of business glossary, data dictionary, domain ownership, data stewardship, and approval processes .
• Good understanding of GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and SOX requirements.
• Experience working in a B2B Technology, Consulting, or B2B Software organization.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
