Public Works Supervisor

Supervises and manages the Public Works employees.

Coordinates the organization, staffing, and operational activities for assigned maintenance services including buildings, grounds, parks, streets, water system, wastewater collection system, stormwater system, sidewalks, assessment districts, and related public works facilities.

Participates in the development, improvements and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; recommends and implements resulting department policies and procedures.

Establishes schedules and methods for providing maintenance and repair services; identifies resource needs and allocates resources accordingly.

Directs, coordinates, and reviews the work plan for assigned maintenance services and activities; assigns work activities and projects; monitors workflow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods, and procedures; meets with staff to identify and resolve problems.

Oversees contractors working for the City involving landscaping, irrigation, planting, electrical signal light maintenance, and/or other public works maintenance contract services; ensures compliance with specifications;

Monitors work sites and ensures adherence to safe work practices and procedures; responds to and resolve complex work related or equipment operating problems; performs the more technical and complex tasks of the work unit.

Inspects work in progress and upon completion to assure that repairs, maintenance, and project activities are in accordance with City regulations, policies and operating procedures and practices.

Prepares reports on maintenance operations and activities; estimates and requisitions materials, parts, and supplies in accordance with established procedures; obtains prices and bids and prepares purchase order requests as necessary.

Participates in the selection, training, motivating, and evaluating of assigned personnel; provides or coordinate staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline and termination procedures.

Coordinates assigned maintenance activities with those of other divisions and outside agencies and organizations.

Assumes responsibility in emergency situations, determines proper action to be taken to eliminate hazards to life and property, if necessary, to expedite the restoration of service by calling out crew personnel and performing other activities connected with emergency work.

Physical Ability : Lifting Heavy: Lifting over 50 pounds, with frequent lifting, pushing and/or carrying weighing over 25 pounds. Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, ramps, scaffolding, poles, and the like; using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Reaching: Reaching above the shoulders to place and/or retrieve objects. Walking: Ability to walk for prolonged periods of time (usually a minimum of two or more hours per day.) Standing: Ability to stand with little movement for prolonged periods of time (Usually a minimum of two or more hours per day). Agility: Ability to move quickly and easily often including the ability to crawl, stoop or bend.

Chemical or Biological Agents : Regular contact with potentially harmful chemical or biological agents Fumes: Potential inhalation or contact with smoke, vapors, dust, or gasses. Heavy Equipment: Operates various heavy equipment such as tractors, backhoes, graders, trucks, etc. Power Equipment: Operates power tools or other machinery that are potentially hazardous. Work Environment Outdoors: Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Work Environment Moving Objects: Ability to work around moving objects, machinery, or vehicles. Work Environment Surfaces: Ability to walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. Confined Space Entry: Ability to work in confined spaces using appropriate safety equipment Heights: Ability to work on surfaces above 20 feet.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization : Requires the ability to utilize equipment, machinery, tools, and supplies used for used in performing essential functions such as; u se hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes. Operate vehicles or powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chainsaws, electric clippers, sod cutters, or pruning saws. Operate light, medium and heavy power-driven equipment, such as, street sweeper, lawn mowers, backhoe, tractor, boom trucks, dump trucks, and other equipment;

Sensory Requirements : Requires the ability to recognize and identify similarities or differences between characteristics of colors and shapes associated with job-related objects, materials, and tasks. Distant Vision, Acceptable for Driving: Not less than 20/40 in each eye without correction or must correct to 20/20 in each eye with corrective lenses whenever driving.

Environmental Factors : Ability to work under generally safe conditions where exposure to outdoor environmental factors such as all-weather conditions. Temperatures: Works in temperature sufficiently high or low that may cause physical discomfort.
