Content Writer
INSTITUTE OF ROAD TRAFFIC EDUCATION · India
Job Description
The Role
IRTE is looking for a Content Writer who can translate deep institutional knowledge into clear, compelling, and well-structured written content – across a website, a blog, LinkedIn articles, social captions, and X commentary. This is not a role for someone who writes well in general. It is a role for someone who can research a topic seriously, form a point of view, and communicate it with authority and clarity.
You will own IRTE's written voice. You will be working with a subject matter that includes road safety policy, traffic enforcement, forensic science, and public health – you do not need to be an expert on day one, but you must be the kind of writer who becomes one quickly.
What You Will Do
Website Content
- Rewrite IRTE's website content whenever needed – audience-led navigation copy, headlines that communicates what IRTE is, understanding and maintaining hygiene
- Write and restructure department pages whenever needed (Traffic Enforcement, Forensic Science, Traffic Engineering, Driver Training & Road Safety Education, Public Health for Road Safety, Law) – scannable, formatted, and compelling
- Write the Leadership page, and Programmes pages with the depth and clarity that institutional visitors – policymakers, journalists, prospective students– expect
- Collaborate with the website developer on copy requirements for any new pages or sections
- Maintain and update website content as programmes, events, and affiliations change
Blog & Content Hub
- Build and maintain IRTE's blog from the ground up – this does not yet exist and is one of the highest-value deliverables of this role
- Write a minimum of 2 blog posts per month covering road safety policy, traffic management, enforcement, forensic science, and public health – with research-backed arguments, not opinion pieces
- Develop evergreen content: explainers (What is a Forensic Road Safety Audit?), case studies (IRTE's Bihar Safe System project), and data-led pieces (India's road crash statistics decoded)
- Repurpose blog content for LinkedIn articles and social carousels in coordination with the Social Media Manager
LinkedIn Long-Form Content
- Write long-form LinkedIn articles for the IRTE organisation page – policy commentaries, programme spotlights, event recaps, and thought leadership pieces
- Assist in drafting long-form posts for Dr. Rohit Baluja's personal LinkedIn – first-person voice, personal narrative, data-led arguments on road safety and policy
- Ensure all LinkedIn long-form content is structured for the platform: strong opening hook, scannable body, clear close
Social Media Caption Support
- Write captions for Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn posts as and when briefed by the Social Media Manager
- Understand platform tone differences: Instagram captions are punchy and visual-first; Facebook captions are longer and community-oriented; LinkedIn captions are professional and insight-led
- Develop caption banks for recurring content types – road safety tips, event announcements, awards and recognition posts – so the Social Media Manager has ready-to-adapt copy
X (Twitter) – Research, Commentary & Advocacy
- Monitor X consistently for ongoing conversations in road safety, traffic policy, road infrastructure, delivery rider safety, autonomous vehicles, and related governance topics in India
- Draft concise, informed commentary posts and thread-format content for IRTE's X account – reactive to news, policy announcements, and public discourse
- Research and curate relevant conversations, tagging opportunities, and accounts that IRTE should be engaging with – policymakers, journalists, ministries, advocacy groups
- Identify emerging narratives in the road safety space and flag them to leadership with a content recommendation
- Write substantive replies to high-visibility posts where IRTE's voice and expertise add genuine value – not promotional, always additive
Platform Expansion Support (Phase 2)
- Support the Social Media Manager in testing IRTE's presence on Reddit, Quora, and Threads
- Write platform-appropriate content for each: Quora answers to road safety questions, Reddit-style informational posts, Threads commentary
- Conduct audience research on each platform – who is asking about road safety, what they want to know, and how IRTE can serve them authentically
- Compile findings into a short written recommendation after each platform pilot
To Apply: Send your CV along with 3 writing samples – one piece of website copy (homepage or about page, any organisation), one long-form article or blog post (any topic), and one X thread or commentary series you have written or would write for IRTE on any road safety topic. Applications without writing samples will not be reviewed.
What We're Looking For
Must-Have Skills
- 1–3 years of professional writing experience – journalism, content marketing, policy writing, or UX copy all count
- Demonstrably strong written English – clear, structured, and free of filler. You know the difference between writing that informs and writing that just fills space
- Experience writing website copy – you understand the difference between homepage copy, about page copy, and product page copy
- Experience writing long-form content – articles, blogs, or editorial pieces of 600 words or more
- Comfort with research: you can read a government report, extract what matters, and turn it into readable prose
- Active familiarity with X (Twitter) – you follow policy, news, or advocacy accounts and understand how discourse moves on the platform
- Familiarity and ability to engineer prompts for using AI tools like Claude
Strong Advantage
- Prior writing experience in public policy, governance, public health, infrastructure, or social impact sectors
- Familiarity with road safety, transport policy, or traffic management – or a demonstrated ability to learn technical domains quickly and write about them accessibly
- Experience writing for LinkedIn – you understand that LinkedIn is not a blog and not Twitter, and you can write for its specific format and audience
- Basic SEO knowledge – understanding of keywords, meta descriptions, and how search intent shapes content structure
- Journalism background or instinct – you ask the right questions, you verify before you publish, and you write with a point of view
What You Will NOT Be Doing
- Designing graphics or editing video – that is the Social Media Manager's domain
- Managing social media accounts or scheduling posts independently – you are a writing resource, not a platform manager
- Writing promotional or marketing copy in a traditional advertising sense – IRTE's content is authoritative, not salesy
