This hospital-based cardiothoracic surgery facility maintains established clinical infrastructure and protocols to support coordinated locum tenens coverage across inpatient and emergency department settings. The facility provides adult cardiac and thoracic surgical services and is structured to facilitate 24-hour call-based coverage with defined response time expectations. On-site resources are in place to support continuity of care for the cardiothoracic surgery service line throughout each assigned coverage period.
About the Facility LocationThe assignment area is situated along the St. Johns River in northeastern Florida, offering clinicians a range of recreational and cultural activities during time away from clinical duties. Outdoor pursuits include water recreation on Doctors Lake, fishing from the 320-foot pier at Doctors Lake Park, and hiking and paddling at Jennings State Forest. The area also features family-friendly entertainment venues, community theater, and local shopping and dining destinations, as well as escape rooms, arcade bars, and airboat tours among available activity options.
About the Clinician's WorkdayThe Physician Associate will provide 24-hour cardiothoracic surgery call coverage on an inpatient and emergency department basis, with weekday and weekend coverage required based on the monthly schedule. Coverage spans the full hospital-based cardiothoracic surgery service line, including emergent call, inpatient and ED consultations, and operative coverage; clinicians must respond by phone within 15 minutes and be present on-site within 30 minutes when required. Clinical responsibilities include surgical first-assist for adult cardiac and thoracic cases - CABG, valve repair/replacement, aortic and thoracic procedures, lung resections, emergency cardiac procedures, and thoracic trauma management - as well as Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH) including saphenous vein conduit harvesting; competency in EVH is required or must be demonstrable. Postoperative and inpatient patient management, bedside and procedural duties within approved APP scope, and collaboration with Trauma Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care/Intensivists, and Radiology are additional components of this assignment.
