Job Description
Functions as a senior-level healthcare provider. Has own independent outpatient schedule as appropriate with guidance from faculty and consistent with best practice. The role and responsibilities extend beyond those of the Nurse Practitioner role by contributing to the education and training of nurse practitioners, department QA & QI initiatives, and optimization of operational strategies. Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for direct patient care on an outpatient and/or inpatient service.
- Cares for complex patients within specialty consistent with education, training, and practice protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Trains and orients new nurse practitioners. Provides education and training to NPs in utilizing new equipment features/benefits and new techniques.
- Develop and implement Quality Assurance and Quality improvement initiatives.
- Contributes to the optimization of operational strategies.
- Contributes to improvements in workflows and patient care services
- Evaluates new and/or established patients by obtaining comprehensive and focused health histories and performing both limited and complete physical examinations as appropriate.
- Orders labs, imaging, diagnostic testing, and consultations. Reviews and interprets results to develop patient care plan. Prescribes medications and therapeutic interventions as appropriate, following accepted standard of care and practice guidelines.
- Depending on department and training, performs therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
- Enters the above in patients medical records in accordance with documentation best practice standards.
- Counsels & educates patients & others involved in their care on acute & chronic disease mgt, disease prevention & health promotion, considering patients age, edu level, psychosocial needs, & cultural BG to insure safe, complete, & culturally competent care
- Confers with specialists, attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and/or other health care providers to promote continuity of care and optimize patient outcomes.
- Assists in the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of research protocols when applicable.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as determined by patient and practice needs.
- Masters of Science Degree in Nursing
A minimum of five (5) years experience in specialty at the nurse practitioner level.
Evidence of strong leadership potential.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral).
- A team oriented individual that works collaboratively to achieve team goals.
- NYS Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP) license and current NP registration
- NYS Registered Professional Nurse license and current RN registration
- Applicable National Board Certification (such as ANCC, PNCB, etc)
- Current BLS (must be issued by American Heart Association)
- Infection Control Certificate.
- Current Narcotics DEA registration certificate
