Position Summary
The EHS Manager is responsible for leading and managing environmental, health, and safety programs for the Ahmedabad chemical manufacturing site and supporting applicable APAC regional offices and operations. This role partners closely with site leadership and the Director, Global EHS to drive compliance, reduce risk, strengthen EHS culture, and support continuous improvement across the organization.
The role ensures that operations are conducted in accordance with applicable statutory, regulatory, and corporate EHS requirements, as well as relevant management system standards, including ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and supporting applicable elements of ISO 9001 where relevant. The role also supports EHS-related training, audits, incident investigations, reporting, emergency preparedness, and performance monitoring.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the site EHS strategy aligned with corporate objectives and applicable APAC regional needs.
- Lead EHS programs for the Ahmedabad manufacturing site and support EHS initiatives for India warehouses and designated APAC offices/operations, as applicable.
- Serve as the site and regional subject matter expert on EHS-related matters, including regulatory compliance, risk management, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, national, and corporate EHS requirements.
- Maintain and improve EHS management systems in alignment with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 requirements.
- Partner with site leadership to embed EHS expectations into daily operations, projects, and decision-making.
- Conduct and oversee risk assessments, job hazard analyses, inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
- Ensure effective root cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow-up to closure.
- Develop, deliver, and oversee EHS training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors, as applicable.
- Ensure EHS procedures, training materials, and communications remain current and aligned with regulatory and company requirements.
- Track, trend, and report EHS key performance indicators to site, regional, and corporate leadership.
- Analyze incident, audit, and inspection data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Support environmental compliance activities, including permits, waste management, emissions, wastewater, hazardous materials, and regulatory reporting, as applicable.
- Lead and support initiatives related to waste reduction, pollution prevention, energy efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
- Develop, maintain, and periodically test emergency response and preparedness plans.
- Coordinate emergency drills and support site readiness for fire, chemical spills, medical events, and other potential incidents.
- Support contractor safety management and ensure appropriate EHS controls are in place for non-routine work.
- Drive a proactive EHS culture through leadership engagement, employee participation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is required.
- Professional EHS certifications are preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive EHS experience, preferably in chemical, pharmaceutical, or related manufacturing environments.
- Strong knowledge of EHS regulations, management systems, and industry best practices.
- Hands-on EHS experience supporting a manufacturing site is required.
- Experience in chemical manufacturing is strongly preferred.
- Experience with multi-site, regional, or international EHS support is an advantage.
- Experience with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems is preferred.
