Senior Director Project Control - Construction

Job Description

One of our client's is hiring for the below role:

Qualification – Btech Civil + MBA

B.Tech in Civil Engineering + MBA is mandatory.

Strong leadership experience in large-scale construction projects is preferred.

1. Project Controls Leadership

  • Lead and develop the Project Controls department across multiple projects.
  • Establish project control frameworks, governance models, and reporting standards.
  • Define KPIs, project performance metrics, and control mechanisms to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Provide strategic direction to Planning, Cost Control, Risk Management, and Reporting teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement global project control best practices.

2. Planning & Scheduling

  • Develop and oversee integrated master project schedules for large-scale construction developments.
  • Ensure project schedules are aligned with design, procurement, approvals, construction, and handover activities.
  • Monitor schedule performance, identify delays, and recommend recovery plans.
  • Review baseline schedules, revised schedules, and look-ahead plans prepared by project teams.
  • Ensure effective use of Primavera P6, MS Project, and other planning tools.

3. Cost Control & Budget Management

  • Develop project budgets, cost baselines, and financial control systems.
  • Monitor project expenditures against approved budgets.
  • Review cost reports, cash flow forecasts, commitments, and financial performance.
  • Analyze cost variances and recommend corrective actions.
  • Drive cost optimization and value engineering initiatives.
  • Support financial forecasting and project profitability analysis.

4. Project Performance Monitoring

  • Track project progress using Earned Value Management (EVM) and other performance measurement techniques.
  • Monitor project KPIs including cost, schedule, productivity, quality, and risk.
  • Identify performance gaps and recommend improvement strategies.
  • Develop executive dashboards and portfolio-level reporting systems.
  • Present project performance reports to executive leadership.

5. Risk Management

  • Establish enterprise-level project risk management frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain project risk registers.
  • Identify commercial, technical, contractual, financial, and operational risks.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative risk assessments.
  • Lead schedule and cost risk analysis using Monte Carlo simulations where applicable.
  • Ensure mitigation plans are implemented and regularly reviewed.

6. Contract & Commercial Management

  • Oversee contract administration activities across projects.
  • Review contractual obligations and ensure compliance.
  • Manage variation orders, change management, claims, and Extension of Time (EOT) submissions.
  • Support commercial negotiations with contractors and consultants.
  • Coordinate with Legal and Commercial teams on contractual matters.

7. Project Governance & Reporting

  • Establish governance processes for project approvals, stage gates, and reporting.
  • Review monthly project reports, executive summaries, and management presentations.
  • Monitor project compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Standardize reporting formats across all projects.
  • Provide portfolio-level updates to senior leadership and board members.

8. Resource Planning & Productivity

  • Monitor manpower utilization and resource allocation across projects.
  • Analyze productivity trends and recommend efficiency improvements.
  • Support project teams in resource forecasting.
  • Ensure optimum utilization of project resources.

9. Quality, Compliance & HSE Coordination

  • Ensure project controls processes align with quality standards and organizational procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with statutory requirements and client specifications.
  • Coordinate with Quality and HSE teams to ensure project compliance.
  • Support project audits and governance reviews.

10. Digital Transformation & Systems

  • Lead implementation of Project Management Information Systems (PMIS).
  • Drive digital reporting through Power BI, Primavera Analytics, and ERP integration.
  • Implement data analytics and dashboard reporting for executive decision-making.
  • Promote automation of project controls processes.
  • Review, Audit, Advisory & Risk Management
  • Conduct periodic reviews of project performance, including schedule, cost, quality, procurement, and commercial aspects to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Lead project health checks and independent project control audits to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and areas requiring corrective action.
  • Provide strategic advisory support to Project Directors and senior leadership on project execution strategies, governance, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Review project baselines, schedules, cost estimates, budgets, contracts, and risk registers to ensure compliance with established project control standards.
  • Perform detailed schedule, cost, and resource analysis to identify deviations and recommend mitigation and recovery plans.
  • Lead qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, including schedule and cost risk analysis, to evaluate potential project impacts.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise-wide project risk management frameworks, ensuring proactive identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring of project risks.
  • Review claims, change orders, variation requests, and Extension of Time (EOT) submissions from a commercial and contractual risk perspective.
  • Conduct governance and compliance audits to ensure adherence to company policies, contractual obligations, statutory regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Provide recommendations on value engineering, cost optimization, resource utilization, and process improvements to enhance project performance.
  • Present audit findings, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations to executive management and stakeholders through detailed reports and dashboards.
  • Monitor implementation of corrective and preventive actions arising from audits and project reviews to ensure continuous improvement across the project portfolio.
