Reading Interventionist

The Reading Interventionist is a highly qualified teacher who works specifically with small groups of students who require strategic and intensive intervention. The focus of the reading interventionist is to develop a student-centered system of intervention that effectively works to close the achievement gap in reading.

Position is responsible for instructing elementary school students in reading through groups or targeted support to enable them to meet challenging State academic standards. Position supports the regular education curriculum and works collaboratively with other personnel to expand student development of appropriate skills, knowledge, and interests in reading.

Essential duties and responsibilities include instructing students through reading groups in accordance to division expectations, completing all requirements as a school division Title I, Part A teacher, developing and delivering lesson plans appropriate to the needs and abilities of assigned students, meeting the needs of identified students through a variety of co-teaching models and small group instruction, using a variety of instructional techniques and reading materials appropriate for the age and skill level of students, establishing and maintaining standards of pupil behavior and creating a safe, orderly and effective environment for learning, participating in conferences as requested to report student progress, assisting with the screening and evaluation of students in reading, collaborating with others to identify instructional needs and develop and deliver professional development, participating in pre-child study and child study process, participating in diagnostic instructional (DI) conferences, maintaining thorough records for assigned student, modeling non-discriminatory practices in all activities, and all other duties as assigned by administrator.

Qualification requirements/experience include possessing a Bachelor's degree in English and a valid South Carolina teaching certificate in English or another qualifying area, completing at least three years of successful teaching experience, possessing effective instructional delivery techniques and excellent communication skills, possessing knowledge of the needs of students requiring additional support in the area of reading, and possessing the ability to instruct students in remedial reading. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, colleagues, parents, and students.
