Hiring: Staff Data Scientist – Merchandising, Assortment, Pricing & Planning

Location: Remote

About the Role

We are looking for a Staff Data Scientist to lead high-impact Data Science & Decision Science initiatives across merchandising, assortment, pricing, promotions, forecasting, and planning.

As a Staff-level individual contributor, you will act as a technical authority and strategic thought partner , building scalable and explainable models that directly influence revenue, margin, and growth.

Key Responsibilities

Merchandising & Assortment

• Build assortment optimization and merchandising models.
• Work with demand elasticity, customer behavior, cannibalization, and cross-sell/upsell dynamics.
• Develop product configuration, bundling, and catalog optimization frameworks.
• Apply causal inference, A/B testing, uplift modeling, and quasi-experiments.

Pricing & Promotions

• Develop pricing and promotion effectiveness models.
• Measure lift, cannibalization, halo effects, incrementality, and ROI.
• Build frameworks using A/B testing, MMM, and causal modeling.
• Partner with Pricing, Product, Revenue, and GTM teams on commercial decisions.

Forecasting & Planning

• Build and productionize demand forecasting and planning models.
• Incorporate seasonality, pricing, promotions, customer cohorts, assortment, and external signals.
• Drive scenario planning, budget optimization, and long-range forecasting.
• Develop simulations to evaluate revenue, margin, acquisition, and retention trade-offs.

Advanced Analytics & ML

• Architect and deploy ML and optimization models using:
• Time Series
• Regression
• Tree-based models
• Probabilistic models
• Recommendation systems
• Optimization techniques
• Own the complete ML lifecycle from exploration and feature engineering through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure models are explainable, auditable, and trusted by senior stakeholders.

Technical Leadership

• Mentor senior Data Scientists and elevate modeling and experimentation standards.
• Influence AI and analytics roadmaps.
• Communicate complex insights effectively to executive and non-technical stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of experience in Data Science, Decision Science, or Applied ML.
• Strong experience in assortment, merchandising, pricing, promotions, or demand planning .
• Deep expertise in statistics, experimentation, causal inference, and predictive modeling.
• Strong proficiency in Python/R, SQL, and ML libraries such as Scikit-learn, XGBoost, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
• Experience deploying ML models in large-scale cloud environments — AWS, Azure, or GCP .
• Proven ability to operate as a senior IC with significant cross-functional business impact.
