Director of Government Affairs

Maven Advocacy Partners · Washington, United States

FULL TIMEfull time

Job Description

Maven Advocacy Partners is a small, effective, and growing bipartisan federal and multi-state government affairs, funding, and strategic advisory firm. We help companies and organizations shape policy, secure appropriations and grants, pursue government contracts, manage risk, and turn public-sector opportunities into results.

Our size is a strength. Clients receive senior-level attention, while our team has meaningful responsibility, direct access to leadership, and a real role in shaping the firm as it grows.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a driven congressional operator to own key client relationships and workstreams from strategy through execution as Maven builds what comes next. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands how Washington works, has built strong relationships, and takes pride in turning strategy into action.

  • Develop and execute legislative, appropriations, oversight, funding, and advocacy strategies.
  • Prepare for and lead client calls, strategy sessions, and Hill and agency meetings, then own the follow-through.
  • Independently produce clear, persuasive memos, briefing materials, and client communications under deadline.
  • Anticipate political, legislative, regulatory, and funding developments and translate them into client action.
  • Manage multiple client priorities, deadlines, and workstreams with urgency and precision.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • At least five years of relevant federal legislative or government affairs experience, including a minimum of three years in a substantive Capitol Hill role with responsibility for legislative strategy, policy development, congressional engagement, or advancing legislation.
  • Established bipartisan relationships across congressional offices and committees, along with a deep understanding of the legislative and appropriations processes.
  • The ability to master new issues quickly, think strategically, and execute at a high level.
  • Excellent judgment, writing, communication, and client-facing presence.
  • High energy, relentless follow-through, exceptional organization, and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex legislative or advocacy workstreams from strategy through execution and to help lead, mentor, or develop colleagues.
  • A hungry, low-ego team player who wants to grow beyond the Hill and help build a firm.

WHY MAVEN

Maven offers an ambitious operator the responsibility, exposure, and runway to grow faster than they might inside a traditional firm.

  • Meaningful client leadership and direct access to policymakers and firm leadership.
  • Exposure to a diverse portfolio spanning advocacy, appropriations, grants, public funding, and government contracting across a broad spectrum of issue areas.
  • The opportunity to help shape client strategy, internal systems, and the future of the firm.
  • A collaborative, entrepreneurial culture where initiative and results are recognized.
