Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced SAP BDC Consultant to support SAP ECC/S/4HANA environments where Batch Data Communication (BDC) is used for bulk data uploads, data migration, and transaction automation. The consultant will work closely with functional, technical, and data teams, especially in the context of a broader Microsoft Fabric data modernization initiative.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop BDC assets and scripts for automated data upload and conversion into SAP systems.
• Collaborate with SAP functional consultants to gather field mappings, transaction codes, and data rules.
• Integrate BDC tools with ETL processes and pipelines hosted on cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, Databricks).
• Ensure exception handling, logging, and reporting mechanisms for BDC execution outcomes.
• Conduct unit testing, data validation, and post-migration reconciliation.
• Optimize BDC performance for large data volumes and ensure scalability.
• Document migration processes and maintain technical artifacts for audit and compliance.
• Provide support during cutover and hypercare phases of SAP data migration.
• Design, develop, and maintain SAP BDC programs using ABAP
• Record and analyze SAP transactions using SHDB
• Implement BDC solutions using Session Method and Call Transaction Method
• Support bulk uploads for master and transactional data (Material, Vendor, Customer, FI, MM, SD objects)
• Handle screen-level validations, error handling, and logging mechanisms
• Analyze existing BDC processes and suggest optimization or modernization approaches
• Collaborate with data migration and analytics teams during SAP-to-Fabric initiatives
• Provide post-load reconciliation, validation, and issue resolution
• Support testing (unit, integration, UAT) and production deployments

Required Skills

• Hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA, and SAP HANA Native Modeling.
• In-depth understanding of SAP data structures, data dictionary, CDS Views, and data replication tools (e.g., SLT, SDI).
• Implementation experience of SAP MDG in key domains such as Finance, Material, Business Partners, Customer, Supplier.
• Implementation experience of SAP MDG, and SAP ETL tools such as SAP Datasphere, SAP Data Services, SAP Information Steward, are good to have.
• Experience with data integration tools and platforms (e.g. SAP’s ETL tools such as SAP Datasphere, SAP Data Services, SAP Information Steward, as well as SAP BTP, SAP Integration Suite, or third-party ETL tools).
• Familiarity with enterprise data warehouse and data lake architecture patterns.
• Solid knowledge of data governance frameworks and Mastre Data Management principles, particularly within SAP landscapes.
• Implementation experience in hybrid landscapes.
• Excellent understanding of data migration concepts, and strategies.
• Experience in data migration using SAP, and non-SAP solutions.
• Experience in conducting design thinking workshops.
• Experience with cloud-based SAP deployments (e.g., SAP S/4HANA Cloud, RISE with SAP).
• Experience with SAP Activate, as well as Agile, Scrum methodologies.
• Experience in agile environments and DevOps practices.
• Exposure to implementation in Hyperscaler Cloud landscape such as AWS, Azure, GCP.
• Knowledge of non-SAP data integration and analytics platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks.
• Proficient using Microsoft Office Tools (i.e. PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Visio, Project, etc.)
• Strong hands-on experience with BDC, SAC, Datasphere, BW, Databricks, LSMW, and IDoc-based data loading in SAP.
• Good understanding of SAP modules and business processes (MM, SD, FI, etc.) and their master/transactional data structures.
• Familiarity with integration patterns involving SAP and cloud-based data platforms.
• ABAP debugging and troubleshooting skills.
• Strong documentation and stakeholder collaboration skills.
• 4+ years of experience in SAP ABAP with strong BDC expertise
• Hands-on experience with SHDB recordings and BDC program development
• Strong understanding of SAP ECC processes (FI/MM/SD preferred)
• Experience handling large-scale data uploads and migrations
• Good debugging and performance optimization skills in ABAP
• Ability to work with functional consultants and business users

Preferred Skills

• Experience with SAP S/4HANA implementation projects.
• Knowledge of SAP Data Intelligence, SAP Data Services, or SAP Landscape Transformation (SLT).
• Experience integrating SAP with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, Databricks, or other cloud data platforms.
• Knowledge of ETL/ELT concepts and enterprise data warehousing.
• Exposure to DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation in SAP environments.
• SAP Certified Application Associate or SAP Certified Technology Associate certifications are highly preferred.
• Experience in Manufacturing, Retail, Consumer Goods, Life Sciences, or Financial Services domains will be an added advantage.

Good to Have

• Exposure to S/4HANA data migration projects
• Knowledge of BAPIs, IDOCs, LSMW, or SAP Migration Cockpit
• Experience working alongside data platforms like Azure, Microsoft Fabric, or Data Lakes
• Understanding of SAP integration and modernization strategies

Engagement Context

This role is part of a hybrid SAP modernization program where legacy SAP processes (BDC-based) are being supported while enterprise data is being migrated and consumed on Microsoft Fabric for analytics, reporting, and planning use cases.
