Motor / Electromagnetic Design Engineer
SkyVector Technologies · India
Job Description
Company Description SkyVector Technologies Pvt. Ltd. is a fast-growing company based in Hyderabad, India, specializing in Advanced Electronics, Aerospace, Defence, and Electronic Warfare systems. The organization delivers cutting-edge solutions for defence and aerospace programs, combining deep engineering expertise with a strong culture of innovation. Teams at SkyVector work on indigenous product development across embedded systems, firmware, PCB design, and mission-critical electronic systems. The company is driven by precision, quality, and a passion for solving complex engineering challenges, and is actively expanding its engineering workforce. Applicants will join a collaborative environment focused on building technology that has real-world impact.
Role Description:
Motor / Electromagnetic Design Engineer
Hyderabad, Telangana | Motor Technology | Full-Time | Defence, Aerospace & EW Electronics
Why Join Us
- Work on real, mission-critical hardware for defence and aerospace platforms — not simulations or academic exercises
- Direct exposure to founders on every major design call — this is not a siloed role several layers removed from decisions
- A genuine hand in a defence-relevant program from an early stage, including the IP and documentation that comes out of it
- We're a fast-growing company — compensation grows quickly with demonstrated performance, not just tenure
Compensation
As a startup, we're not able to match big-company salaries right now — but we're growing fast, and early team members get real ownership over what they build, faster growth in responsibility, and compensation that scales quickly with performance rather than waiting on annual cycles.
This is a hands-on electromagnetic design role, not a general software or coding role. You should be someone who has actually designed or iterated on real motor topologies and run FEA — not just studied electric machines in coursework. If your background is in software development, computer science, or IT with no electric-machine design or FEA project work, please do not apply. This posting is exclusively for candidates with an Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics background and real project or thesis work in electric machines.
The Role
We need someone to own the electromagnetic side of our motor development — taking a design from a rough torque/speed spec through modeling, simulation, and into something we can actually wind and test on a bench. You'll be working directly with the founders, not several layers removed from decisions, so this is less "execute the spec" and more "help us figure out what the spec should be."
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics — ideally with real project or thesis work in electric machines, not just coursework (CGPA 7.5+ or equivalent — applications below this will not be considered)
- 2–5 years actually designing or developing electric motors — industry, a research lab, or a serious final-year/grad project
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing and iterating on motor topologies — BLDC, SRM, SynRM, PMaSynRM, and Halbach-array PM machines — against real torque, speed, and efficiency targets
- Running FEA (ANSYS Maxwell, JMAG, FEMM, or equivalent) and cross-checking it against Magnetic Equivalent Circuit models
- Working through rotor/stator trade-offs — magnet choice, pole-slot combos, winding layout, flux-weakening — and explaining why one option beat another
- Catching mechanical and thermal issues before they catch us: centrifugal stress on the rotor, demagnetization risk, thermal derating under continuous load
- Building and maintaining analytical models (MATLAB or Python) and checking them against FEA and real test data
- Getting into the lab for prototype builds and bench testing — this isn't a simulation-only role
- Writing up designs and test results clearly enough to be useful later, including for grant or defence-procurement paperwork
You Must Have Real Comfort With
- An FEA tool (Maxwell, JMAG, FEMM, etc.) and building your own analytical models when the FEA tool is too slow to iterate on PM machine fundamentals — pole-arc design, magnet grades, winding factors, torque ripple — beyond "used it in a project once" MATLAB and/or Python for modeling and crunching data.Defending a design decision from first principles, not just pointing to a simulation result
Nice to Have
Halbach-array or hybrid-magnet rotor experience, SRM/SynRM/PMaSynRM exposure, rotor mechanical validation or thermal analysis experience, UAV/EV/aerospace actuator background, published work (IEEE ISIE, PEDES, IICPE, INTERMAG, or similar), or experience working with winding vendors and small machine shops
To Apply
Send your resume to career@skyvector.in with subject line "Application for – Motor / Electromagnetic Design Engineer". In your email body, mention your full name, CTC, Expected CTC,along with one motor topology or FEA project you've personally designed or iterated on end-to-end and what it was for.
