Senior Accountant
OBR Group Limited · Sheffield, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom
FULL TIME
Job Description
We're working with a growing, independent accountancy practice in Sheffield that has tripled its turnover since 2022 and is now looking to add to its team due to growth.
Check below to see if you have what is needed for this opportunity, and if so, make an application asap.
This is a brilliant opportunity for someone already working within practice who wants more exposure, more responsibility and a genuine route into managing their own portfolio of clients. This is a real opportunity for someone ambitious to come in, develop quickly and work their way through the ranks as the business continues to grow.
What You'll Be Doing
Preparing accounts for limited companies and other businesses
Year-end accounts preparation
VAT returns
Personal tax returns
Supporting with corporation tax calculations
CIS work
Liaising directly with clients to obtain information and resolve queries
Supporting bookkeeping where required
Reviewing accounting records and reconciliations
Exposure to payroll
Working alongside Client Managers and supporting their portfolios
Using technology and AI tools to improve efficiency across emails, letters and client information
You'll work closely with two established Client Managers, who will provide work and support while gradually giving you more responsibility. As your confidence and technical ability develop, the aim is for you to build up your own smaller portfolio of clients, becoming their direct point of contact and progressing towards Client Manager level.
The Clients
There's plenty of variety. The practice works with businesses and individuals across sectors including:
Construction
Healthcare and care homes
Education and recruitment
Owner-managed businesses
Limited companies
High-income individuals
And many many more
The portfolio ranges from smaller businesses through to significantly larger and more complex organisations. That variety means you'll get exposure to far more than straightforward accounts preparation.
Progression
This is one of the biggest selling points of the opportunity. The practice is keen to bring in someone who wants to progress rather than simply remain at Semi-Senior level.
The team is currently creating a genuine opportunity for someone to develop underneath the existing Client Managers and gradually take on their own portfolio.
You'll be exposed to a wide range of work and given more responsibility as you develop.
ACCA study support is available, alongside practical development from experienced people within the practice.
There's no expectation that you walk through the door knowing everything. They would much rather find someone with the right foundations, attitude and willingness to develop.
Working Environment
The culture is relaxed, supportive and down-to-earth. It's a mixed team and certainly not an office full of huge personalities competing to be the loudest person in the room!
The business is looking for someone who will fit into that environment, capable, approachable and confident enough to communicate with clients, without needing to be overly polished or overconfident.
Flexibility & Benefits
36.25-hour working week
Core hours of 10am–4pm
Flexible approach to start and finish times
Hybrid working – typically up to 2 days per week once established
23 days' annual leave + bank holidays
Holiday entitlement increases to 25 days after 2 years
Christmas shutdown, with 3 days taken from annual leave
Ability to carry over up to 5 days' holiday
Option relating to payment for up to 5 days' holiday
Pension
Quarterly team social/event
Free parking
ACCA study support
Clear progression towards managing your own client portfolio
What We're Looking For
Have previous experience working within an accountancy practice
Have experience preparing accounts
Understand VAT and year-end processes
Have some exposure to personal and/or corporation tax
Be comfortable communicating with clients
Be willing to get involved across different areas when needed
Be studying towards ACCA or looking to continue your professional development
Be organised and able to manage deadlines
Want greater responsibility as your experience develops
Be looking for somewhere you can genuinely build a long-term career
You don't need to be the finished article.
This practice is looking for someone with good foundations who wants the opportunity to learn, become more client-facing and eventually take ownership of their own portfolio. xrexnqw
If you're currently in practice and feel like you've stopped progressing – or you're simply ready for somewhere that can give you broader exposure and a clearer next step, this could be well worth a conversation.
