ContractPay range: $55-60/hr
Our enterprise client is hiring for a Data Engineer on its Client Communications team. The team runs its data ecosystem on MySQL today and is in the middle of a modeling effort to move it to PostgreSQL. You will lead the data modeling and performance side of that move while keeping the current platform healthy: designing the Postgres models, tuning for performance, and building the ETL that feeds the backend and the federated graph. The team expects engineers to lean on AI coding tools for day-to-day work and to push that tooling forward.
What you will do:Build conceptual, logical and physical data models for the client communications domain in PostgreSQL and drive the migration from the existing MySQL instanceOwn data performance across both engines: indexing, query plans, partitioning and load testingBuild and operate hands-on ETL that moves communication, template and delivery data between MySQL, Postgres, Iceberg tables and downstream consumersExpose clean, versioned data contracts to application services and the federated graphMaintain data dictionaries, entity relationships and pipeline documentation; enforce data quality checks; handle upgrades, patches and backupsUse AI coding tools (GitHub Copilot or similar) across the full workflow and help the team adopt new tooling and practices
Required Qualifications:5+ years in data engineering or database development, with production experience in both MySQL and PostgreSQL, ideally including a migration between themSignificant data modeling skill: normalized and analytical models, schema evolution and migrationsStrong data performance skills: advanced SQL, query optimization and tuning under real loadHands-on ETL experience building and running pipelines, not just designing them, using Python, Node.js or SQL-based toolingExperience with Apache Iceberg table formatsHands-on with AI coding tools and an AI-assisted development workflowBachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications:DatabricksPower BISpark, Airflow or similar orchestration; KafkaGraphQL or federated graph exposure; Dynatrace; AWS and Kubernetes
