Associate Attorney / Assistant Trial Counsel

Role DescriptionThis is a full-time, on-site role based in Cleveland, OH, for an Associate Attorney / Assistant Trial Counsel. The Associate Attorney will handle cases alongside lead counsel across the firm's practice areas, including criminal defense and domestic relations, provide sound legal advice, conduct thorough research, draft pleadings, assist in trial exhibit preparation, and represent clients in negotiations, hearings and trials. The role includes pleading practice, witness preparation, and witness examination at hearings and at trial, assisting lead counsel in trial preparation.

ResponsibilitiesPrepare motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and trial documentsAssemble and maintain case files, exhibits and trial bindersAssist in preparing witnesses for direct and cross examination, including preparing clients to testifyConduct direct and cross examination at hearings as assistant trial counselResearch evidentiary, constitutional and procedural issues as they ariseAppear at arraignments, pretrials, hearings, sentencings and trialsNegotiate with prosecutors and opposing counselMeet with clients and keep them current on the status of their case
QualificationsAbility to provide expert legal advice and conduct extensive researchStrong writing skillsStrong negotiation skills and interpersonal communication abilitiesExperience with document preparation, witness preparation and witness examinationJuris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active state bar membershipExperience in criminal defense and case preparation preferredAbility to manage multiple cases simultaneously with strong attention to detailCommitment to client advocacy and ethical legal practices
