About the Role :
We are looking for an experienced Commercial Underwriting professional to lead underwriting operations for commercial insurance products. The role requires strong technical underwriting expertise, portfolio management capabilities, and the ability to drive profitable business growth while maintaining underwriting discipline and regulatory compliance.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in underwriting commercial lines, managing teams, collaborating with distribution partners, and working closely with risk engineering, claims, actuarial, and sales teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead underwriting for commercial insurance portfolios.
- Evaluate and underwrite complex commercial risks.
- Drive profitable portfolio growth while maintaining underwriting quality.
- Develop underwriting guidelines, processes, and best practices.
- Ensure compliance with IRDAI regulations and internal underwriting policies.
- Review risk exposure, pricing adequacy, and policy terms.
- Support business teams in acquiring and retaining key corporate accounts.
- Coordinate with brokers, intermediaries, and distribution partners.
- Monitor portfolio performance, loss ratios, and underwriting profitability.
- Work closely with claims, actuarial, reinsurance, finance, and risk engineering teams.
- Mentor and develop underwriting teams.
- Drive process improvements and underwriting automation initiatives.
- Prepare MIS, portfolio reports, and management dashboards.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Strong experience in Commercial Lines Underwriting with 5-9 years
- Excellent knowledge of property, engineering, liability, marine, and miscellaneous commercial insurance products.
- Experience handling large corporate accounts.
- Sound understanding of risk assessment and pricing.
- Knowledge of IRDAI regulations and underwriting governance.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience leading underwriting teams.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Educational Qualification
- Graduate in any discipline.
- Professional insurance qualifications (III, ACII, FCII) preferred.
- MBA or PGDM is an added advantage.
