Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Transportation Project Manager to join our rapidly growing Transportation Practice. Our ideal candidate is someone with excellent client interaction skills who can design, manage, and lead roadway design teams for projects both locally and nationally from one of our North Texas Offices in Dallas or Austin.
As part of this position, you will be a key part of a seller/doer team and you will manage all aspects of projects from business development, scope and fee development, staffing plan development, design development, project oversight, quality management, and financial performance responsibilities.
Responsibilities include:
Adhere to Burns & McDonnells safety programs, trainings, and policies, as well as promote and manage the Safety & Health performance of project team members and subcontractors.
Serve as a project manager for transportation infrastructure projects for a variety of clients including but not limited to local/state/federal governments and agencies, utilities and planning organizations.
Lead contract preparation and negotiation; coordination with regulatory agencies; project planning, budgeting, and scheduling; and the establishment of critical project objectives and performances for your projects. Responsible for ensuring revenue and project financial performance goals are met.
Build and manage effective relationships with existing and new clients, customers and contractors throughout the project lifecycle, including client development, sales, maintenance, and management.
Work with a multi-discipline team of engineers and technicians to design and manage the roadway and site development projects including geometric design of roadways & interchanges, drainage design, utility coordination, traffic control plan development, and quality review.
Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for business development and financial performance.
Provide project management, leadership, mentorship, and instruction to project teams and department staff.
Prepare and present for clients and industry events and publications to continue to build personal and company brand in the state and nationally.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in civil engineering, construction management or related degree from accredited program.
Minimum 7 years of related experience.
Texas Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain within six months.
Past roadway design and project management experience for municipal and DOT clients.
Client contacts with TxDOT and/or municipalities preferred.
General business and financial calculation knowledge, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge of transportation design guides, including the AASHTO Greenbook, the Roadside Design Guide, and MUTCD.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding work environment, ability to work overtime on short notice.
Ability to work collaboratively with others (owners, contractors, engineers, designers) in a multi-disciplined project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
