FULL TIME

Job Description

Category: Internship (6 months)

Starting date: Immediate

Location: Bangalore

About Equilibrium:

Equilibrium is a full-stack carbon removal developer building one of the largest high-integrity carbon portfolios from the Global South, with a ~20Mt CO₂ removal pipeline. We develop bankable, high-impact projects by integrating advanced climate science, an in-house digital MRV platform, and innovative blended finance.

Our portfolio spans across nature-based and engineered removal: on nature-based, we have large-scale agroforestry, regenerative agriculture, and mangrove restoration initiatives; on engineered removal, we are building India's leading biochar platform with large-scale commercial operations. Collectively, our projects span 120,000+ hectares and will support over 150,000 smallholder farmers and coastal communities.

Our work is backed by a $3M institutional seed round from Peak XV (formerly Sequoia) and Avaana Capital, and driven by a 90 + member team with deep expertise in climate science, carbon markets, and project operations.

Key Responsibilities:

We are looking for a GIS Intern to support our geospatial data, mapping, remote sensing, and data-quality workflows across Equilibrium's carbon removal projects.

  • Process, clean, validate, and analyze geospatial datasets using QGIS, ArcGIS, and/or Google Earth Engine.
  • Perform spatial analysis including overlays, spatial joins, buffers, and raster/vector processing.
  • Support satellite imagery and remote sensing analysis.
  • Use Python and Excel for data cleaning, analysis, automation, and GIS-ready outputs.
  • Prepare maps, spatial outputs, reports, and technical documentation while maintaining strong QA/QC standards.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in GIS, Geography, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience with QGIS and/or ArcGIS through academic projects, internships, or personal projects.
  • Basic understanding of coordinate systems, UTM, projections, and transformations.
  • Familiarity with remote sensing concepts such as reflectance, optical bands, and radiometric calibration.
  • Basic working knowledge of Python; familiarity with GeoPandas, Rasterio, Xarray, or NumPy is a plus.
  • Good Excel skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with messy datasets, perform data-quality checks, and document methodologies clearly.
